I ripped this off my own Facebook account (because Im too lazy to retype it for you), but heres how to set up a camp using events only.
Enjoy =)

Right, so here's a little tutorial that allows you to set up a camp in-game in RPG Maker XP, which you can use to do....pretty much anything that comes with a camp. Sleeping, sleeping with someone else (great way to add new party members!), cooking, hunting, convoys, etc.
First off, you'll need graphics for the different stuff you want to put in your camp. The graphics need to be the type of graphics you use for charachters (4 images down, 4 images over). These are easy to make however. If you wanted to have a tent in your camp for example, you would rip the tent image from the tile set, then put 4 tents by 4 tents in a picture. I uploaded a picture of what I mean. Feel free to use this one.
Tent
For whatever you want in your campsite, just do the same as I did above. I have a campfire I made thats used to cook raw fish on.
Import that image to charachters in your material base.
Now make a new event (or common event, doesnt matter a whole lot....but I find events are easier). Set it to Player Touch and Fix Direction, and choose the tent graphic (doesn't matter which one). Label the event, "Tent", for easy identification. If you want to be able to do anything with the tent in game, you should do that now in the event area (for example, asking the player if they want to rest, and then recovering all the party's hp if they say yes).
Make a new event, set it to Parallel Process and un-check all the boxes.
Make a new switch and turn it on, called "Tent off". Then Erase Event.
Make a new event, set it to Parallel Process and un-check all the boxes.
Set the condition to the switch "Tent off".
Make a conditional branch, that happens when a certain button is being pressed. You can choose whatever button you'd like, mine is the space bar (To set the space bar as the button/key, play-test the game, press F1, go to "Keyboard" and set space to a letter [like R]. Then make the button in the conditional branch R).
I suggest here you add a text box asking the player if they'd like to set up camp, but thats your choice, if you choose to do so, make up your own text, I'm lazy.
Now change the players graphic (the one he moves around with, and make sure the persons graphic who you change is the party leader, the default is Aluxes) to the tent, you can keep the battler at what is now if theres the chance of fighting enemies while setting up camp.
I suggest you add a screen flash above where you change the players graphic. It just looks nice.
Now make a new switch, call it "Tent Mode", and flip it on.
Now add an Erase Event.
Make a new event, parallel process, un-check everything. The condition is the switch "Tent Mode".
Make a conditional branch, that happens when the same button you used earlier is being pressed. Again, I suggest you add text saying something like, "Are you sure you want to place your tent here?". Just a suggestion. After that, this is another spot I suggest you add a screen flash to.
Make a new variable (Control Variables), name it Playerx, and set it to the players map x. Make another variable, name it Playery, set it to players map y.
Now add a Set Event Location, choose the event "Tent", and make its position the variables Playerx and Playery.
Change the charachters graphic back to normal.
I suggest you move the player to another spot at this point, like a checkpoint or something, or wherever you entered the map from.
Now, turn the switch "Tent off" off.
Add an Erase Event.
Make a new event, parallel process, un -heck everything, the condition is that "Tent off" is off. Make a conditional branch, set it to the same button as before, then have some text that tells the player that the tent is already set up.
You now have a way of building a camp in RPG Maker XP! *victory dance*
If you have any questions about it (or I made a typo or error or something), please send me a message. I may have left something out, but I have made a working version of the script a few times already. Its doable.
Be sure to give me credit if you use this. Just call me Achilles =)
