MANIFEST

There exists a most curious and powerful race in the world of Ospes, able to manipulate and alter matter itself.

Their numbers are few, and from the beginning they have lived as outcasts, perceived as a threat to the world and every living thing in it.

They are called Theolar.

Thymetians, the most dominant race on Ospes, have done all that they can to suppress the Theolar. For they, more than any, are afraid of them.

Most Theolar are content to live in hiding and have abandoned the use of their abilities in hopes they would be forgotten. But among them there is a small group, known as the
Andurim, who are unwilling to give up that part of themselves.

Their sole purpose is to provide the Thymetians and the rest of the world with a glimpse of their greatness, now long overshadowed by what else they are capable of…

Thank you for taking enough interest in this project to view the thread. This project is a fulfillment of a childhood dream and it is very dear to me. I do hope you enjoy it.

In the interest of quality, I encourage everyone who plays the game to leave feedback, comments, advice, or any questions if you have them.

File size: 133 Mb (remember...30 hours of gameplay)

World/Story
Manifest is a story-driven fantasy game that takes place in a fictional world. The world is made up of several large islands and what is commonly referred to as the mainland.

There are several different intelligent races that live in various parts of the world…

Thymetians: The dominant and most populous race, they live in all regions of the world save for one. Their government consists of a High Lord and a council who make decisions that affect most of the world. Because of their widespread influence, most other races can understand and speak the Thymetian language.

Orzrak: A reclusive race who have lived in the mountains for thousands of years. They are generally avoided by most other races due to their foul tempers and grotesque appearance.

Rulwook: A peaceful tribe who live on a small island southeast of the mainland. They are known for their skilled artisans and craftsmen.

Graymarg: A proud people who were forced from their homes by the Thymetians several decades ago. They now live in the northern mountains, just south of the Thymetian capital city.

Theolar: The final race is the sparsest and the most feared. They have been scattered and forced into hiding because of their unique abilities. There are some Theolar who are able to manipulate and alter matter. In an attempt to make peace and live together with the rest of the world, most Theolar abandoned the use of their abilities long ago. It didn’t help. There is a small organization among the Theolar, known as the Andurim, that is unwilling to give up their abilities, and seeks to prove to the rest of the world that great things can come from them.
It is on this group of Theolar that the main story is focused. It begins shortly after the coronation of a new Thymetian High Lord, and so the Andurim has a new chance to reach an understanding between Theolar and Thymetians, and prove that they are not as dangerous as every other living creature believes. Their numbers are few enough now that failure this time…means extinction.

Characters

Age: 28
Armegmus is a Theolar and a member of the Andurim. He is impulsive though he lacks confidence in many areas of his life. This causes him to rationalize the decisions he makes. He often feels a great deal of pressure to be more mature than he feels.

Syndarion
Age: 60
A Theolar and the leader of the Andurim. He is extremely proficient in the use of his abilities and guides the younger members, such as Armegmus, in their training. He believes more than anyone that great things can come from their talents, and hopes the rest of the world will soon realize this before they are gone. He is always searching for Theolar who lack the knowledge to use their abilities so he can recruit and train them among the ranks of the Andurim. He knows a lot more about the circumstances of Theolar than he lets on.

Vellamik
Age: 44
Vellamik is a jovial and loving Thymetian. He works as a blacksmith in the village of Relna, where the Andurim is currently hiding. He met Syndarion a long time ago when Syndarion first visited Relna in search of other Theolar to recruit to the Andurim.

I just started playing this, but the game crashes after the first cutscene because an audio file is missing. (If I'm not mistaken, it's "Song of Memories.")

I apologize for that, and thank you for letting me know...I found two other songs I had missed when I looked. All the music should be included now so I'm reuploading it to filedropper right now. Thank you for playing my demo and I do hope you'll give it another go.

No worries! wink.gif

Finding bugs is all part of the game-making process. I fully intend to resume play once I download the file. Thanks for the help!

This game is really fun. I played for about three hours and stopped after you are able to burn the dead trees that block your path before the game broke on me. It seems like the screen was tinted and I was unable to move, but the music was still going and I could access the menu. See #10 for where it happened.

I took notes along the way on bugs and possible improvements.

1. The beginning is very story-heavy. I don't like when games throw the names of multiple characters and events at you from the start, especially when they are complicated names. The story gets easier to understand over the coarse of the game, but it would be better to have the beginning less boring.

2. There are some missing commas in the dialogue, but it's no big deal.

3. After you leave the first house, there is some graphical errors in the trees.

4. One of the houses west of the first house has an attached square area which is actually a secret area inside. However, on the outside, you can walk on top of it if you pass through the on right.

5. In one of the middle houses, there is a sink and bookshelf which can be passed through.

6. A lot of the secrets in this game are way too obvious. It would be nice to have a little bit of a challenge, although there might already be less subtle ones that I haven't noticed, in which case, they are exactly what this game needs.

7. The world map loads very slow for some reason. It seems to happen whenever the scene is updated either by entering the world map, exiting a battle on the world map or leaving the menu on the world map. The loading time takes about 10 full seconds, which may not seem long, but it can really become tedious if you are leveling on the world map.

8. Another small flaw. The door leading to the first boss becomes an action button pressed event after killing the boss. I am not sure why. I do not know why this door event would have multiple pages, but it seems to be a flaw.

9. The smoke coming out of the blacksmith's chimney is not animated and just floats in the air. I would imagine it could be animated the same way fire has been animated in this game several times already.

10. This is where the game broke on me, but I had a save before this happened so I am good. Right after the events at the tower, I continued north to the forest area where undead are apparently roaming and got the ability to burn the dead trees. Since I have seen these trees before, I decided to head back to the first village where there are some. After getting the chest there, I left the first village and the journal cut scene played again. After it finished, the screen was still tinted and the music was playing, but I was able to access the menu. I tried moving around for a random encounter, but none happened, so I assumed that I was frozen in place, probably because the journal cut scene has the main character frozen in place and the screen tinted to show the picture of the journal page. Something went wrong here, so you should check it out.

Other than those small flaws, this is a pretty cool game. I really enjoy the ability to change the difficulty at any time in the game. I also really like the side battle configuration. For some reason, I really disliked the side battle script, but this game really makes me want to try it on my game as well.

Sizux, thank you very much for taking the time to find and report these errors. I have now fixed them all after I realized what happened with the number 10 error you reported. I hope it did not discourage you from playing through the rest of the demo. Thanks again.

I have been making good progress on Manifest over the last few months, and am now able to put up a new demo. You can find the new link in the original post along with quite a few new screenshots. Please take a look.

NEW FEATURES/MAJOR UPDATES:

- All previously known/mentioned bugs have been fixed

- Added the second continent's worth of story and locations.

- This includes a dungeon with no random battles...only sneaking past guards using eventing. They have line of sight awareness but are not able to see through walls and other obstacles.

- It also includes a dungeon involving unique switch puzzles. Events were used to make switches "aware" of not only when rocks are pushed *on* to them, but *off* of them as well (continuous pressure switches)...this is more difficult than you might think and involves a great deal of parallel processing.

- Added new abilities such as steal and scan.

- Retooled the "average" battle difficulty to make it more consistent from dungeon to dungeon.

- There are now 21 Nayrin relics hidden around the currently accessible world. If you play the demo through to completion please let me know how many you find. Thank you.

Please enjoy.

If you are someone like me, who has always enjoyed the challenge of a good puzzle in an rpg, as well as the depth it adds to the gameplay, then this batch of screenshots is for you. It is a collection of some of the puzzles you will encounter in Manifest. Hope you enjoy.

Click the spoiler to see the other four.

I have just released a new version of my demo. Along with the link in the original post, you will find a new list of features and new screenshots.

I have many new systems in place, and though I have playtested the crap out of the demo, I am looking for testers who can provide detailed feedback on any errors that might be encountered, things that can be made more enjoyable, specific data (such as how many relics you found, whether you completed the "notice board" quests or found the viper fang/thunderhead/frost reaver, etc), what you thought about the sneaking, the lockpicking, the arena, the puzzles, and criticisms in general.

I will give credit in the original post and in the ending credits for any who make it through to the end of the demo and provide at least one
piece of feedback.

To help stir up your interest, please read through the new "features" section in the original post.

It is important to note that, due to massive restructuring of the world map, this version of the demo is incompatible with both previous versions...although there is enough new content in the early sections of the game, that those who already tried the demo should find enough entertainment to revisit it...not to mention the huge amount of brand new content in this demo release.

Thank you in advance to any willing to give Manifest a playthrough.

Manifest...my passion, my pride, my dream...is now complete. It is around 30 hours of gameplay and it took me 4 years from conception to the finished product.
The download link is at the bottom of the original post.

This thread is ready to be moved to COMPLETED projects.

Looks good overall, but I'm a bit confused. Is this still in demo form, or is it completed. If completed, you can have a mod move it over, and then I'll add it to the Completed Game list.

It is complete, and I'd love for a mod to move it to the completed section...how best to go about that? Thanks.

I can't find the file to replace... How does one do that? Would I need rpgmaker? Could I just re-d/l the game instead?

Thanks for the interest. You can play the version you have right now for quite a while. The error doesn't come until much later in the game, and I'll upload an updated/fixed version of the game tonight, which you can download when you get to the Onyx Mountains. You'll just need to copy your save files and move them into the folder of the new version.

EDIT:

New version link is in the original post. The current version has all known bugs resolved. If you have already started playing, just download this version and transfer your save files to the new folder.

Thanks for giving Manifest a try! Check behind the walls in there and you'll find 2 hidden boulders. Happy gaming, and I look forward to hearing back from you again.
