You have to get super duper lucky with an amazing project, but I don't think they are updated much anymore. Some of those projects are waaay out dated and have like, nothing on them anymore. So.... yeah let's just say it's harder than being NOMINATED a Global Moderator.

Redd please don't give advice if you don't know the facts. You don't get nominated to be a Global Moderator - you have to be a moderator first, and promotion comes as a reward for hard work. Ask Nightshade - he was promoted last week, or Ratty he was promoted last year...so it is attainable...
Now to answer the original question.
The featured projects are ones that are long term projects that show promise. Contrary to what Redd told you they are updated on a regular basis and only recently two inactive ones were archived.
Dracorb Legend has been running for a long time, is unique in style and was updated last week, Team Gaia holds all the Gaia projects including Dark Gais games. Streamline Games is the home of Team Black, they were a whole forum that was moved over to RRR and that was updated last week.
They are always team projects, they need to have plenty of content and a unique style, anyone can ask to be given the option although it is not a guaranteed place.
Thanks for the anwser kaz, at about what point during the projects development (Or post completion?) is it alright to be asked for your project to be featured?

You will need plenty of information on the project and how you expect it to progress, if you take a look at the ones we already have you will see that they are in varying stages of development, for example Dracorb has no demo but a huge emphasis on a different style of design. Team Gaia had several games already complete, and adds new instalments to the original game..Team Black have moved to film production to coincide with the next episode of Black..
I must warn you in advance that the project will need to be different to qualify,...a new edge that has never been done before..but the best thing to do is to let us see what you have when you are ready, we also like projects to be from members of the forum who are already well known and have been here a while.
This is very interesting, it's definitely something I'd be interested in, as I currently plan on posting seperate topics for discussion on specific elements of my project. I suppose I could always ask for my own section once I have demonstrated the different aspects of the project, and then move the seperate topics from Game Theory & Design to the project forum.

Personally, I don't even see why you would want to have your project featured. Sure, your game would receive more attention -- not in all cases, but in most -- and everyone wants, at least some, attention. Maybe it's just me, but I think getting your project featured would be a burden.
oops, man that made me look stupid. What I'm saying is it's near impossible to get a new game up there. For the 2 years I've been here, a new game has never been added. So yes I know you can't be nominated a global mod, hence the all caps NOMINATED just explaining myself a bit more clearly.

Just throwing in my piece here..I've noticed that when a project moves to some sort of spotlight on a forum like this, the creator(s) tend to rush and try to get things done; Well, the newer ones. As is why it's understandable to be someone who has "been around the block."
Also, it's not as if the spotlight positions would exactly be profitable; however, if by your definition: profitable equals 10% more visitors, then go for it .
Personally, I think if a project sounds interesting, by title, and looks interesting, by screenshots, then i'm probably going to check back. So, hook people with interesting visuals and a title first. Release a bit of story Hopefully, you'll have more visitors and be able to release more story, but you guys probably know this.

I don't agree with you at all... Most of my games are interconnected in a lot of ways in terms of storyline and mythos so having a general forum where they can all be found together and discussed collectively rather than individually is great; this is why I wanted a Featured board in the first place, to keep track of my mythos and make it easier for my players to do so.

I know this is comming like sudden, since it isn't even on topic, but i really think that Darkhalo should get his own subforu, for his games, cause they often have a unique style, just saying that he has worked hard and deserves that, i know comming like a shock from no-where, but, but
