Doom at the gates of Hell

Abstract: my first rpg what I am showing here was made in 3 days the finished game will be MUCH MORE POLISHED the reason i have show its in such a early state is because I want to know if anyone is interested in this game is it worth me making it will anyone play it? I
Genre: science fiction and horror
Engine: RMXP, and a hell of a lot of doom sprites
Story
The player takes the role of an unnamed space marine who has been punitively posted to Mars after assaulting his commanding officer, who ordered his unit to fire upon civilians. The Martian space marine base acts as security for the Union Aerospace Corporation, a multi-planetary conglomerate, which is performing secret experiments with teleportation by creating gateways between the two moons of Mars, Phobos and Deimos. The manual makes it clear that Phobos is considered by space marines to be the dullest assignment imaginable: "with no action for fifty million miles, your day consisted of suckin' dust and watchin' restricted flicks in the rec room." This all changes when the UAC experiments go horribly wrong. Computer systems on Phobos malfunction, Deimos disappears entirely, and "something fragging evil" starts pouring out of the gateway, killing or possessing all UAC personnel. Responding to a frantic distress call from the overrun scientists, the Martian marine unit is quickly sent to Phobos to investigate, where the player character is left to guard the hangar with only a pistol while the rest of the group proceeds inside. Over the course of the next couple of hours, the marine hears assorted garbled radio messages, gunfire, and screams, followed by silence and yes I did just copy and paste that from Wikipedia

you will only play as one character in the game the doom marine

Credits
all the games textures will be taken from doom and were ripped by me by print screening in game or when using doom builder monster sprites come from here http://doomfansite.synthasite.com/doom-sprites.php
weapon sprites where ripped by FalconDelta and SladeEXE on the spriters resource also I am using kellessdee Dynamic Lighting Script
Edit I will be useing gun sprites form the Zdoom forum I will list all the original sprite artist here and in the game credits the pistol in the 15th post was made by xaser I will be useing the fantastic First Person Labyrinth Explorer by MGC which you can get here http://save-point.org/thread-422.html

Features
the game plays differently from other rpgs instead of magic spells and mp you have worry about ammo the way I am doing that is by renaming the item command and calling its Actions the actions you can use are stuff like use shotgun use stimpack use pistol use berserk pack that way I can limit how many times you can use the shotgun and you will have to pick up ammo as you play the game

Please update your credits to be a bit more clear. Did you rip the graphics yourself (ie., the tiles, the sprites, the backgrounds) or did other people do these. If others, they need to be listed. If there are any scripts you are using, those need to be included as well.

Once you've done that, I can move this over.

hi everyone I know most here wont be very interested in a rpg based on a fps game well known for not having a plot but I am having alot of fun putting this thing together today i been making the on screen hud the face animated and changes depending on how hurt you are still not sure how to display heath but this whole game is a learning experience so i am sure I will figure it out I have ripped the sound effect from the playstation version of doom and have also started animating all the enemies so has anyone got any comments smile.gif?

This actually interests me greatly, I love doom and I like the concept of how you are doing everything, the item instead of mp thing, in particular is very interesting. I just hope you use real doom SFX for this as well.

I do not have a copy of RMXP anymore, but if you find you are having troubles with events or such, do not hesitate to ask. I'll do what I can to assist you, as I would like to see this game take off and maybe inspire more odd rpg combinations!

I love Doom as well.

Since it doesn't have the.. uh... best plot, you could spice it up! Or add things!

Have you ever heard of, or played Doom RPG? They could help you with ideas!

I was wondering why I thought that this idea has been done before.



Over the years there has been quite a few attempts to make good RPG out of the Doom series.

However your attempt seems more true to it's source, so far. At least as far the graphics go. However because of that, walls don't really look like walls compared to supposed floor.

yeah the doom rpg I kinda forgot about that lol never played it i probably should look that up on youtube anyway thank you everyone who posted I have quite a few ideas for the story running through my head I mean the plot does have penitential kinda like a cross between Aliens and the Evil dead series and exploring the base and watching and reality warps and distort into hell should be good biggrin.gif

Ah who doesnt love some classic doom! But i believe they have a RPG version out now, was it on a nintendo handheld system? Anyways it bring back memories to see the old screen shots, I would just worry about how it looks to the rest of the game graphics, there would be some balancing issues I would think.

I kinda like making the little chibi rpgmaker versions of the doom characters so defiantly going to stick with them
I tried shrinking the actual doom sprites down to fit in a character sheet but they got so pixelated it was just ugly

I made a fully animated hud which changes depending on the players hp but i can seem to figure out how to change the battlers graphic in battle any suggestions?

Please don't double post if it's been less than 72 hours (you can edit your previous post if needs be). Also, bumping is only allowed if you have a significant update to make. sorry for not posting anything new in a long while but my pc had to go in for repairs and 2 days ago I discovered the excellent First Person Labyrinth Explorer which works great with this project
I don't think I will just use that I might switch between fps and traditional top down view
the reason being I only have one scientist sprite in the doom style so for all the talking sections I might use top down view and then you explore dungeons in first person dungeons will be the abandoned ares of the mars base and hell itself

I censured this image because of harsh language
