People were complaining about memory usage and overall performance issues, with win 7 I was using about 1GB IDLE, with 8 I'm using 0.4 idle.
Also a lot of the issues were due to aero so I'm more or less waiting for windows blinds to fix the issue.

There is also faults with the Audiodg...even after the hotfix. Has that been fixed in 8 as far as you know as That would almost persuade me... Although from what I've heard, there is going to be alot of problems with program compatibility, I read something about how it was completely different to XP+, built completely differently so to speak. So a ton of programs could become redundant if not redeveloped for use on 8's completely new layout.

No compatibility issues as far as I know, RPG Maker, game maker, unity, and Photoshop install perfectly. I'm waiting for windows 8 to be supported in windows blind and possibly an aero glass theme.

The metro design at least for desktop users was designed to be a full screen start menu.
And to be quite honest there's not many features from home and pro that make pro worth while. I'll more likely upgrade to PRO down the road once they include REFS into the main installer without using the command line.
Between 7 and 8 there's not really a big difference accept you half to click on the desktop metro icon to open it, the huge difference is speed and performance. As I've said 1 Gig to 400 megabytes is worth the upgrade minus the 1-2 second delay clicking on the desktop icon.

Getting rid of aero-glass was probably a good thing, it'll be available with windows blinds or some third party themes and will more or less be faster than glass ever wass.
Windows XP to date was probably the slowest the longer you had it, even from initial install on my workstation it was slow (how is xp slow with 192GB of DDR3 2600MHZ server ram?!!) 7 was fast once you got booted in and let it sit for about a minute, never slowed down like xp did.
8 is probably the most secure of the recent windows releases and probably why I'm sticking with windows than going full time Linux(mainly because wine isn't quite there yet).
I think Microsoft is starting to realize that security is important, I don't think the desktop will ever disappearif Microsoft wants its major client base which my friends is businesses and not at all the home users(7 was widely adopted and 8 is even seeing adoption).
Edit: 10/26/12
Okay so I installed 8 (which geez.. was done in less than 5 minutes) my exact time was 4:29 to install + 5 minutes going through the normal windows setup. So 10 minutes to install is awesome compared to 30 + 5 with windows 7.

I ran into driver issues so back to 7 for now, but keep in mind 8 is only a week old and already seeing vast amounts of driver updates mainly beta but updates.
Now because I HATE the super bar, I'm atm looking for an alternative shell that basically offers the traditional taskbar be it XP or vista's, just no super bar... Also changing dekstops can improve performance, I remember using lite-desktop and going from 1G down to 200MB even lower than my win8 install! Same hardware btw!
Now I fixed most issues if not all in 7 from the registry or hacking myself(don't recommend this), and it's running great, but I will be going back to 8 once drivers catch up in a few months or wait til sp1. Nvidia keeps crashing, 2X 690's in SLI.. It's a known issue..

I don't intend to upgrade any time soon, mostly for performance reasons. A shit laptop running as low key as possible will do everything a good laptop will do it just won't look as fancy doing it. However, if Windows stick with the design, I'll have no problem upgrading once it's been broken in a bit. I actually find the navigation to be pretty damn simple. I recently started working at Currys/PC World and part of my job is showing people windows 8. Even though I've had no training in it, I can still find my way around pretty easily. That said, it is definitely a tablet OS more than it is a PC OS. I just find it quite interesting that Windows might be beating Apple at their own game.
In any case, from what I've seen it's a decent operating system, just a tad unfamiliar.

They didn't take away from the desktop nor did Microsoft, it's how it's integrated which makes it kinda useless but the windows 8 game apps are fun.

I will not upgrade to windows 8, not ever.
Although this is the Tavern. Please add at least a reason why you'll never upgrade to 8. Otherwise this is just spam. ~Jonnie19
