Enterbrain just recently posted an update announcing a new RPG Maker; RPG Maker VX Ace! (cue the heavy engrish)
The cost is currently set at 13440円, and for those of you who don't spend in yen currency (you're crazy) - ahem - that's about 175.16 USD. It'll support Windows XP/Vista/7 (possibly Windows 8 too) 32 and 64 bit versions. From what I can read, they've a release date (for the maker or the website? I'm not sure) planned for December 15th this year.
You can find the link (its all in Japanese) here. Currently, the web page is "coming soon."
Thoughts? Rants? Raves?
Personally, I think they could go with dropping the whole VX bit, unless this is really going to be as handicapped as RMVX was.

I just did a translation off of their sales site with more detail surrounding the new maker, albeit still quite limited. I'm pretty excited! It's always nice to see a new maker come out. If nothing else, it gives variety and often times will spark creativity. For me, it is lovely to be translating again.

Funny, I just saw your topic and was like "I just posted that like 20 minutes ago ._." I never even saw that page, glad you translated it. And yeah, a new maker is always more fun then a new resource pack!

I understand the question of why not make an altogether new editor versus what appears as an add-on to the current VX system. But there appears to be a lot of people thinking of VX, but don't want the hassle of tileset limitations, or the extra time and effort to implement a script to allow tileset swaps. I've even wondered, if Enterbrain is still in the market for releasing an additional RTP and adding a fairly decent tutorial, why not just update the editor?
That really is the big thing I think that should be fixed. Include at least 10 sets (A-J). I can't fathom needing more than 10, but others may disagree.
Make A and B both auto tiles so you can choose between two world map sets if you'd like (A1 - A5, and B1 - B5).
With the recent Samurai Pack that people want, they were forced to decide which tilesets of the new versus the old they wanted, so maybe that's their goal, to increase the tileset to allow both.

Oh, definitely more fun! I suspect more information will be available in the coming days when Enterbrain finishes up the product page on tkool. We'll have a better grasp on things when that happens.

The translation of the Japanese text suggests that is is standalone, as it refers to VX as the predecessor, plus, this is way more expensive than VX is.
The website says the release date is December 15, 2011.

I'm purchasing the Japanese version and I'll give some insight on it's release.

The possibly 8 too was that it may work on windows 8. Sorry for the lack of specificity >_<.
32 bit and 64 bit are virtually un-noticeable difference; 64 bit usually runs faster though, because faster processors support it, and it can handle more than 4GB of RAM. Basically, on 99% of computers, the storage is in chunks of 32 bits (4 bytes), 64 bit machines use chunks of 8 bytes, ie: more information, larger numbers, more precision, etc.
Btw, up until now, ace, all other RPG Makers haven't supported 64 bit; so if you bought a 64 bit computer, you wouldn't easily be able to run them. (if at all)

64 bit computers can run 32 bit software though.

Y'know I always thought that they should. Is it native support, or does the system have to emulate a 32 bit machine like windows has comparability mode?

- coming from Enterbrain - create stories set in modern times - includes locations like schools - includes timelines during the Warring States or Sengoku era - also includes sci-fi universe, complete with probing table - combine all these elements together, if you like - due out Dec. 15th in Japan
That alone is making me question what the ACE will have. If they are planning a modern/sci fi setting for the DS Plus, they really need to do something like that for the Ace.

It's native.

Take it for what it's worth, but Plus is described as "for Beginners" and Ace as "for Professional".

Nice, I learn something new every day I'm still leaning on 32 bit, letting 64 sink in for a while; maybe my next computer will be a newfangled 64 bit system.. Though I think I'll stay away from Win8, personally I think the new web-based start 'screen' is pointless. I couldn't care less about appearances though, I just want to be able to access files quickly.
The "For Professional" is actually a loose English translation, the text right below it actually says "For those of you who want more functionality to meet diverse needs." I hope this doesn't only refer to RGSS3, and its character/face generator.

With a price like that I'd probably wait a little bit after it's international release... assuming it's getting one.
I agree with amerk in the sense that I really want this engine to improve the editor. The most frustrating aspect of working with RMVX is its tileset limitations and it's lack of diversity in its stat system, which often forces me to backtrack to XP more often than not, though even that maker has its problems.
I'm highly anticipating this release, and I hope Enterbrain has been listening to it's customers.

Well, they lowered the price on RMXP and RMVX, so they'll likely do it eventually with VXA.
@DeadS0L: They've already done that, it was called RMVX. this one is called Aah-Pii-Gii MeiKaa Bii Ekusu Eisii; the 'much' improved version of Aah-Pii-Gii MeiKaa Bii Ekusu!
Anyway, I have hopes for this one, RMXP was good, wasn't it? Out of the lineup of makers by Enterbrain/ASCII/whatever VX was just a fluke.
