Don't know if anyone cares anymore or not after the long wait (Like 3 years maybe? I stopped counting).

Stencyl is going to be released in a few hours apparently.(According to the twitter page http://twitter.com/#!/Stencyl )

Its said to be able to create flash games without the use of coding which is a pretty cool thing, buying Flash CSwhatever will cost you a very pretty penny, so this is a great alternative for those of us who don't have an attractive purse or wallet.

Anyway, I can't wait to check it out.
Knowing my luck, I expect there will be some form of catch... unsure.gif

Has anyone had the luck of trying out the closed beta's?
What do you hope for your first project to be if you decide to use Stencyl?

I've been in the beta since last summer and it's been awesome, but if you're going to use it I strongly recommend learning actionscript!

My first project is obviously a RPG, but I think I'll create a FF like kit and a Seiken like kit so there's both turn based and action based systems readily available to stencyl users.

My favorite thing has to be multi OS support, I've managed to run it on BSD, free bsd, Linux(I haven't had much luck with fedora but works on every other distro) and obviously it works flawless on Mac, and Windows. Ubuntu is the best choice to use and also my favorite linux distro(but I run OS X inside of it as my main os)

I'll write tutorials this weekend^^

Played around with it and was disappointed. The editor is clunky and unintuitive. I'll stick to RPG Maker and Unity.

Why do you find Stencyl unintuitive? Everything is well organized and very easy to find.
Also, why did you find the editor clunky? Took to long to load? It's layout is very much like every OS X application(And it was also developed USING OSX)

I've been dicking around with it for a while, and it has a SERIOUS amount of potential. It needs more people making more things for it (This will happen when a broader community starts gathering, as I suspect is already happening now that it's publically released) it needs to support more formats for more things (Right now it only supports MP3, so MIDI, OGG, and a couple other popular formats aren't available yet. I gotta say though, the psuedo-scripting feature is really handy as hell.

Color me impressed. If someone eventually scripts a TBS script for this, I'll be using it very frequently.

You don't need to script/use actionscript, just use Pencyl's Event code. A TBS in stencyl is a lot easier than you'd think, of course you still need to know how it works to make it work.

@Sailerius: After using stencyl for awhile and now trying to make an actual game with it I can see why you'd think it's clunk and yes it is clunky and also very buggy(design mode) If 60GB of fucking DDR3 ram is "TOO" slow especially for a "Java" game engine than I do know.. it's design mode is just awful.. stick to code mode if you can.

I'm simply done with it, you can't think logically as you could with GML, C#, JAVA!, FLASH(AS3)!, C++ etc.. I'm more into coding I might check out unity or try to stick to as3 but use flashpunk and box2d.
