My RPG Maker 2003 game, Island Sky. The game takes place in an Island, 4 students and a teacher are on vacation from school and are enjoying their day.

*It has a custom battle system, which is kinda in the style of tactical RPGs, but I don't think you'll be thinking very hard to beat the battles.
*It has a media player, online bank, some minigames, stuff like that.
*The music is all custom made by me.

Here are some screenshots:

Battle system at work.

In the ruins area.

In the volcano area.

It is about 18 MB zipped. It should take about 2-4 hours, more or less, to beat the game. I didn't keep count, so I don't know exactly. This is a complete game, not a demo. I know it's short, but I wasn't aiming for 60-100 hours of game here.

Let me know what you think of it! I want to know what I should fix (other than the battle system, I pretty much know the faults of that one), for my future projects.

Yuck, those file sharing programs are awful.

Try here

Your game looks very nice! The community needs more tactical RPG games.. it kind of reminds me of Lunar's battle system. I played a little bit of it, once I get some time I'll finish playing it.

Oh, thanks Rydain! That's great. I made the battle system in a tactical RPG style, but even the game I made before (which I no longer have) had more strategy to it. I purposefully made it simpler so that the battles wouldn't take half an hour to beat, they could take about 30 seconds if you're strong enough. But I want to see what everyone thinks of this, I'd like to know what works and what doesn't.

I haven't played any RM games or used the maker in over a year but this game might get me back into it. Is this a demo (as it only takes 2 hours to beat)? or just a mini project? I think you should definitely expand on it. Good job and keep up the good work.

Oh, it's a complete game, it's just pretty short. You pretty much don't really need to power level, the overworld is very small, there are about 10 areas, and the dialogue could all be skipped if you want it to. But you can play new game+ and the dialogue will be different. So maybe a little more than 2 hours, I'm not sure. But it's definitely not a long 30-100 hour game. And thanks, I hope people will enjoy it.

I think the battle system would be what most people would complain about. laugh.gif The code for it is old, I coded that system back when RM2003 didn't exist. When RM2K3 came out, I remade Island Sky, and most of the effort went into graphics (mapping more than chipsets) and music. I only fixed major bugs for the battle system. I wonder what people think of the boss battles though, I tried to do something different for them. The dialogue was quite different also.

I got to agree. No offense, but that battle system is real old! Anyway when are you getting a new computer? Rpgmaker Xp is much better than 2003! Inform me/RRR when you get one!

Peace!

Unless I wait for my birthday, or save up a lot of money, I doubt I'm going to buy a better computer anytime soon.

Bump. This game is also on the main page under the games section, but in case you haven't checked it out, it's here and in my sig. My sig had an expired link to the game, so I updated that. Hope you like, and let me know exactly what you like/dislike/recommend for it or future games. Enjoy!

Ocean, when you fixed the bugs, did you upload the edited project to the download site?

Nope, not yet. I haven't gotten around to doing so. I think I'll make some other changes as well before I do that (a bit of graphical changes, as well as some larger maps and balancing issues). I'll announce that, though.

Ok, good. I think coolest part of your game was the end, and the PB cups.

And now i shall play: cynon's worst rpg ever project!

I'm wondering how much of it should I fix up before posting the new version? I could completely redo the graphics, the coding, make the areas larger, and stuff like that if I wanted to. Do I want to? Hmmm...

You'd have to use event coding.

The only reason why you may not be able to do this with event coding in RMXP is because they can't call Local events in RMXP.

I've seen other RM2K/3 games that had tactical battle systems. I think Aurora Wing was one of them.

Speaking of graphics, what was that palm square looking thing? You know, that 3x3 plant square you put everywhere.

Something that I'm going to take out in the next version. It's supposed to be a tree or something viewed from above... and it was ripped from the same screenshot that I got the grass tiles from. However, it doesn't work well with the rest of the graphics.
