You click the the text tab (which is located in the events tab) and then while typing the message (if this is really for VX) look to the left of it. There will be a blue box. Double click that and then scroll down to the folder titled "Faces" pick one of the faces, press ok and then apply.
I think she means that if the character changes, the face changes as well with little input from the creator.
So basically, a setup like this : NPC tells Player, "Please come back with less than 200 gold." Player says to NPC, "Okay. Why?" <---This is said with the original face. NPC tells Player, "No questions. Just go." Player goes to Salon with 210 gold, comes back with 190 gold. Player now has different hair. (For this example, I'll use emo hairstyle.) NPC tells player, "Good job!" Player says to NPC, "Thanks, but what now?" <--This is said with an emo hairstyle, same face, rather than normal. However, the OP wants to somehow be able to track what face the player has, and have that face show in messages where the Player's character talks. Another form of what I just said : She wants to be able to track the character's look and have different faces set for messages.
