Project Cliche (Title W.I.P.)

Abstract- After seeing a list of RPG cliches (seen here), I was inspired to try to shove as many of these cliches into one game as I could. Project Cliche will be both generic with its cliches and unique with its 4th Wall breaking, "meta-ness."
Genre- Fantasy
Platform- RPG Maker VX Ace

This is also my first time working with the new RPG Maker. In fact, this game had been almost forgotten until the release of VX Ace made me want to bring it back.

Story
After a strange girl appears in his hometown, leading to its destruction by the Empire, Rio, his best friend Isaac, and the mysterious Rihn, decide that they are main characters, and they will go on an adventure to stop the Empire. Along the way, they'll be joined by a variety of familiar party members, such as, "the spunky princess who is rebelling against her royal parents and who is in love with the hero," "the character who is actually a spy for the bad guys but will instantly switch to your side when you find out about it," and more!

Will they defeat the Empire? What do you think?

Setting
Project Cliche takes place in the land of Weynar, where you swear you've seen this place before. It features such remarkable locations as, a desert city, a martial art-based community, a cave with rocks that glow from a natural energy source, and a shop in the middle of nowhere!

This is the current design for the world map. The proportions are slightly different in-game, but overall, it's rather accurate.

Characters
Protagonists
Name: Rio D'Marco
Age: 16
Weapon: Rocket-Sword (think Gunblade, but replace the gun with a rocket launcher)
Backstory: Rio was raised in a small village where he lived a relatively normal and peaceful life with his mother after he was rejected by his home kingdom. He has a heavy interest in weaponry and holds no ill-will about losing his royal position.

Name: Isaac Pressen
Age: 16
Weapon: Crossbow
Backstory: Isaac befriended Rio after he left the Kingdom. He's the only person who never treated him differently because of his royal heritage. Isaac has always been better at talking to people than Rio, but also the more level-headed one. Despite that, he can never turn down an adventure.

Name: Rihn
Age: Unknown
Weapon: Morphite Staff
Backstory: Rihn is a mysterious mage who happens to appear in Rio's hometown, bringing untold troubles with her. She shares nothing about her past and very little about her motives.

Name: Phishia Alexandra
Age: 15
Weapon: Giant Spoon
Backstory: Phishia was friends with Rio before he was rejected from the royal family. She is angry about Rio losing his position in the royal line and rebels against her father whenever possible.

Name: Ethl Rose
Age: 19
Weapon: Gauntlets
Backstory: Ethl is a young woman who loves to party and is constantly getting involved in fights. She was born in the slums of the Empire and her parents died while she was still very young. She learned how to get around on the streets, but was absorbed into the lifestyle of crime.

Name: Lorelei Lamonte
Age: Unknown
Weapon: Multiple Swords
Backstory: Lorelei was a small child when her village was attacked and burned to the ground by the Empire. She suffered from burns over most of her body. The burns also burned out her eyes, rendering her blind. She is quiet but intelligent and wants nothing other than to seek revenge on the Empire.

Name: Zehron Rodeo
Age: 16
Weapon: Revolvers
Backstory: Zehron had spent his whole life living in the rich part of the Empire. He has always been able to do as he pleased. He was a bit of a rogue, causing trouble at every opportunity.

Name: Tea "Tee-Lee" Leroshinin
Age: 12
Weapon: Trumpet
Backstory: Tee-Lee is a young girl who lived a peaceful life in the small town of Lanton. When her home is attacked by the desert lizards. She is carried away but is saved by Rio's party, and after asks to join them.

Antagonists
Name: Alec Orion
Age: 20
Weapon: Rocket-Sword
Backstory: Orion's family was once one of the most respected branches of the royal family of Perseph. However, several generations ago, they were rejected after allegations of human experimentation with Morphite. His family was one of the first to begin backing Greht and they are believed to be the cause behind the Greht Uprising.

Name: David Sylph
Age: 23
Weapon: Morphite Orb
Backstory: A criminal who was going to be sentenced to death until he was saved by Orion. Afterwards, he swore his life to serving Orion. He is highly intelligent and has discovered how to harness Morphite as a weapon.

Name: "Pheonix"
Age: Unknown
Weapon: Dual Swords
Backstory: She is the newest agent for Orion. Her background is unknown.

Name: Dobbsy
Age: Unknown
Weapon: Jester's Cane
Backstory: None. A reoccurring jester who appears when it's least convenient and meddles in Rio's party's affairs simply "for the lulz", though Rio's party can never seem to figure out what that means.

Sorry this hasn't been updated recently. I haven't given up on it. I'm just really busy with school right now. I have finals all next week, but after that, I will be spending a lot more time working on this.

Here's an agenda of what I want to get done soon:
1. Finish mapping the exterior of Persephilis (~80% done)
2. Map the interiors of Persephilis (0% done)
3. Continue work on cutscenes (drafting currently)
