In a third-world dictatorship ruled by an incompetent supervillain, fight against sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads.

An RPG with a conditional turn battle system, in a modern fantasy/espionage setting with over-the-top action and comedy.

This game is being developed in RPG Maker XP. A demo is available, which is a little over an hour long, lasting through the end of the second dungeon.

Iniquity and Vindication is a game about James Brandt, a man with a grudge against the Regala Empire. He wages a private war against Lord Justice, the comically inept villain who tries his best to be evil but just isn't very good at it. The game begins with the hero being lowered into a vat of lava sharks, after getting caught while trying to break into Lord Justice's shark factory. As the game progresses, comedy is mixed with action and drama as dark forces enter the fray and James's resolve is tested. The player's mastery of the game must grow as challenges become extremely tactical.

Set in 1991 in a fictional dicatorship under the rule of a madman, Iniquity and Vindication quickly starts incorporating fantasy elements as the government is revealed to be researching mystical artifacts.

James Brandt
The game's main character, and the playable character in the first dungeon, James is bent on fighting the totalitarian government by whatever means possible, including destroying weapons factories and stealing national treasures. When one of those treasures turns out to be an ancient sword with mystical powers, he uses it to turn the tides of his personal war.

James learns new skills via a system called Lightbulb, based partially on SaGa Frontier's weapon skills. His skills are split into four types: Dark, Sword, Martial, and Ki. By repeatedly using skills of a certain type, he will gradually unlock new skills of that type.

Veris Cardei
A former police officer, now working as a private detective and aiding James's plans. Veris is the playable character in the second dungeon, where despite having a crippled arm and being incapable of physical combat, he is able to use a magical ring that has been the subject of a secret government research program to break into a naval base and fight his way to rescuing James.

Veris can analyze enemy properties, and learns new magic spells by watching enemies use them. After seeing or using a spell five times, Veris will master the spell, halving its MP cost. If you can beat a dungeon without ever letting the enemies in it use one of their spells, Veris will learn and instantly master the spell at the end of the dungeon as a reward.

- Battles use a lightning-fast battle system geared to work strategically like CTB but look visually like ATB, and occur on the field map, Chrono Trigger style.
- Ultimately, form a team of eight major playable characters, each with a vastly different combat style and with their own method of learning new skills. (Lightbulb, Blue Magic, Crest Graph, Monster Soul Absorbing, etc.) Two of these characters are playable in the demo.
- Removal of repetition. If you beat a challenge once, you won't be given that same challenge again. This not only means no random battles but also no basically-identical battles. This game isn't about grinding, it's about figuring out how to win.
- Puzzle-filled dungeons, in which you must cleverly use various tools collected over the course of the game to bypass obstacles.
- More bosses than you ever thought a traditional RPG could have. Just about every third or fourth battle will be a boss. That's not an exaggeration.
- A blend of comedy and action in the manner of Disgaea or Dr. McNinja. Or, you know, my other game, Vindication.
- The opening scene starts with the hero being slowly lowered into a vat of lava sharks.

Iniquity and Vindication is a sort of spiritual sequel to Vindication. It features some familiar-seeming characters and similar events, but it is not set in the same world and there is no continuity between the two games. If you enjoy one, you'll probably enjoy the other.

This game is currently in early production stages. I'll be updating the blog as I go.

I can't get over the fact that character looks like Cloud Strife. Definitely gotta try this out.

Oooohh, looks cool. Gonna give it a try now.

I'll give comments as necessary.

EDIT: I loved everything! The story's interesting, the gameplay's perfect (I love how you use a laser at one point to solve puzzles), the humor's great... just perfection. I'm definitely gonna play the next demo once it comes out.
