So I got a copy of RPG maker 2 for ps2. It's pretty neat. It's got 3d guys and stuff. The question is, Is there anywhere online I can download games for this thing? Or If I made one and uploaded it would anyone play it? Is there any point to it, or should I just put it up on my shelf and admire the box?

In order to allow people to play games, you need to lend them your disc and Memory Card. Or you could use RM on an emulator like PCSX2 (you need to dump your BIOS to use it, which is easy to do with a USB drive) and distribute the memory card file. But even so, people would need the program.

So basically no, put it back on the shelve, and actually there is a Rpg maker 3 for ps2 and its just as worthless simply for the fact that no one would ever want to play it cause all the jumps and hoops you have to go through, and with ps2 being outdated to ps3 anyways its just a waste. Computer rpg makers are much better and can get to alot more ppl, hell there is still ppl making old 2003 rpg maker and even older ones.

I went through the SAME thing you did, i got a copy of rpg maker 2 right after basic training and was like omg this was amazing! I put work into it then when I saw there was no point in it, just like the 1st one I went looking online for a better choice and I found rpg maker XP, that was well over 5 YEARS ago, and I havent looked back since.

I personally would love to see an online version of the console rpg makers (including those that were never released stateside), but I highly doubt that will ever happen do to the fact that they were made by another company (not Enterbrain) and would require a lot of extra coding to make them useable online versus a console.

However, I'd even settle for playing a console game made with RM, but that's also very near impossible without jumping through hoops. You could go to the RPG Maker Pavilion to see if you can find an answer (http://www.rpgmpavilion.com/), but as others have commented, it's just too much of a hassle. Looking at that website, it appears you'll need software capable of uploading the game, and players will need software that enables them to play the game, as it will probably need to emulate the PS1/2 controls. Whereas with online versions of RM, the player only needs to download the RTP and then can have access to almost any game available from RM2K through RMVXA. A lot of these people looking to play a game will not have the know-how, patience, or capability to get console games to work on their PC, which diminishes your target audience tremendously.

Depends really on how serious you are about reaching an audience. If your aim is just to make a great game, regardless of who it does or does not reach, then you might as well keep using it. 3D capabilities sound pretty handy (though I'm guessing the struggles mentioned above also means getting/making additional resources isn't easy) and you've already paid for it anyways.
In regards to actually having someone play it; I value the opinions of my friends over any number of online strangers and they can always play it off your console right?

Oh boy I hated RPG Maker 2 on PS2. I started with RPG Maker on PS1 which gave me my start years ago. When I got RPG Maker 2 I actually also bought the Prima strategy guide for it cause it was far to difficult to develop for. The engine starts you out with no battle engine. So you have to manually code the battle system in RPG Maker 2 to even get started. How you even do that is explained so vividly in the manual, that it is not even worth it.

So the strategy guide tells you to go into easy mode, go through the process of deleting the annoying sample game in RPG Maker 2 and start making your own stuff. But once you get to know RPG Maker 2 more, you start to see how pointless it is to develop for. Yeah the 3D graphics are cool and the music is somewhat better then the PS1 RPG Maker, but it's just meh. At the time also, I did not own a PC so I couldn't just have downloaded RPG Maker on the PC and used it, made my own games, and released them on the internet. Which would have been nice...

It took me some time to actually want to develop games for RPG Maker again. Because RPG Maker 2 killed it for me. I used to practice so much on the pS1 version that it wasn't even funny. I think a lot of you, if you could have, would've enjoyed the games I made on it if I was actually able to release the damned games online for others to play. But that was an impossibility.

So use the RPG Makers on PC instead. Don't waste your time. Shelve it, admire it, but don't venture into it. It's an empty journey filled with nothing.

I don't like the Makers for PS2..I test it out and its just too hard to type with joystick..

I actually had the PS2 USB keyboard when I had RPG Maker 2.

I totally 100% agree. It be good if they could make a 3D RPG Maker on PC but the same game system as RPGMAKER XP and VX.
