Remember, These Tutorials are very simple. They are for beginners, but pros could watch to ;8

Interior Maps

Lesson one

Ok. I have practiced in inner mapping skills, and I feel done to do this tutorial.

Tileset: Town Interior

Map Size: 20x15

Here we go.

When you make inner maps, don't make them square. That will never work, and it dosen't look great.

This is wrong!!!

Try to make small rooms in the big room, so it looks good.

This is right.

Don't use the same type of floor in the whole house. Mix them, like another type in the kitchen, and another one in the living room, and so on.

Also, some says that walls should be in the second layer.

Wrong!

It works perfect to have it in the first layor.

Now, you can have windows and furniture on the second layer.

And pictures and lamps should be on the third layor.

This is not one of my best maps, but you get the point of how you should do.

Let your imagination take over you, then it will turn out great, like this map.

This map is from my pirate game im working on. I took 20 minutes on this map, and it's one of my best maps I ever done.

Something to add is that I've seen far too many miss-sized maps when it comes to town and village interiors. If your house is only for one person, make it a small house. There's nothing worse than having a huge house for your standard villager. Most people in medieval times (during which most rpxp games are set) cant afford large houses, and those that could did not live in a village. The concept of having more than one family in a house is useful too, since you can have a slightly larger house (or conglomeration of houses) for more than one family. (Cultural Note: It was also not uncommon for one man to have several wives, although this was mainly in richer families. In poorer families, couples often had a lot of children to feed and provide money for the family. Remember this when designing a family house.)

Nice tutorial on this house. I really like it but, when you say that the walls should be on the first layer your character is able to walk on the walls. What do you say should be done about it?

Your character shouldn't be able to walk on walls. Ever. Check your passage setting for that tileset.

hey this was helpful. thanks. What i would always do is make the map 31x28, and then i made it like a circle house. This helped a lot.

Thank You biggrin.gif
But aren't there any easier methods to do it?
Or doesn't the autotiling work for me?
Cause i need to double click the wall tile and select which part i want to put in each time, and that takes ages if you have a big house...
