Hey everyone,

So I'm not sure which engine I should use to make my game. I believe I've heard that VX is *not* the way to go...something about limiting how many tilesets I can have?

My goal is to create a world that is based visually on my favorite 2-D RPG, Final Fantasy VI. Obviously what I'd like to do is use sprites and tilesets from the game (including my own palette swaps and my own elements that I shall masterfully create pixel-by-pixel in MSPaint), and if I recall correctly there's a size difference in the pixels between two engines, ie. one, say XP, uses 64x64 tiles and another, say 2k3, uses 32x32 tiles, and one of these is incompatible with tilesets and sprites from FF6.

As far as events vs. scripting, it's my understanding that scripting is obviously much more powerful and versatile; while I'm a brand new user, I'm confident in my ability to learn so I'm not too worried about how complicated that stuff might be able to be.

I'm happy to receive insight from anyone! Thanks so much in advance smile.gif

Well put simply..
VX if you want ease of use with the database and scripts.
XP if you want nicer maps.
That's as far as I know

There is a script named SwapXT to bypass this limitation.

XP and VX tiles are 32x32, while 2k/2k3 tiles are 16x16.

I think there is a FFVI SDK for RMXP but I might be wrong. In any case, the best thing to do is simply to try. Download the trial versions, just play with the engine, and see which one you are the most comfortable with.
FFVI being a SNES game, you can recreate it (visually and mechanically speaking) with XP, VX or 2k3. More than the engine capabilities, you have to consider your own skills first.
