So, I haven't done much composing lately. Like, none at all. I've slowly started working my way back into it, and decided to start off with this. It's an arrangement of two memorable songs from The Legend of Dragoon, an old PSI game. It combines elements from Intro(Ruined Celes) and Dart's Theme, and I think it came together well.

The whole idea with this mix was to create a flowing song that told a story, and I tried to convey the same feelings the original songs brought, while doing them differently. So here it is, listen and enjoy. I've made every attempt to make the sound consistent between headphones(bass boost and standard), standard speakers, and speaker/subwoofer combos. Laptop speakers, as it should go without saying, may not experience the full quality of the sound. Critique, questions and comments welcome.

Song Name: My Village In Ruins
Running Time: 3:45
Size: 4.30MB
Bitrate: 160kbps

Download: Sendspace or Streaming

Song Name: Aftermath
Running Time: 2:04
Size: 2.37MB
Bitrate: 160kbps

Download: Streaming

This song is a rather short WIP arrangement, currently featuring melodies from Helena Prison, Shana's Theme, Chapter 1 World Map, and Despair. It's still got a long way to go, but it's coming along nicely. The first track is still being improved upon, I just felt like taking a break.

Updated. Added a revised version, and a link to a streaming version(for those who don't want to download it).

The most recent version will always be the streaming one. The old version is still available for download.

I personally always prefer to stream music instead of download it (so I usually don't listen to music posted unless it is streamed), so thanks for making it streaming as I'll listen to it now! =D

Now that I've listened to it... O_O
I love it; excellent dynamics, very clean, and the melody is really cool. :3

I'd love to hear more. happy.gif

Updated. A WIP of another Legend of Dragoon mix is up and available for listening. This one features melodies from Helena Prison. Shana's Theme, Chapter 1 World Map and Despair. Note that it's still a pretty big WIP. This is just the first listenable version I have. Suggestions, comments and critique are, as always, welcome(And much needed!)

Notable things I'm fixing:
*The dynamics/panning. It's a bit loud at times.
*"Soften" some of the sounds.
*Add more depth overall. The segments are a bit short.

I think one more thing you can add to the "things I'm fixing" would be the sustain (to hear the notes more clearly, reduce the amount of/duration of the sustain). =]
One thing you could replace the sustain with, would be a background instrument (or group of instruments) playing the same chord in various ranges. This would keep the sounds you want in the song, but reduce the main instrument from being so overpowered.

It sounds really cool though, even at this point. ^^

My Village In Ruins is really good! Just like the original but with a different appeal~ I thought the "bubbly" effect was a bit strange, though. Aftermath is good too, but with a little revising to it. XMO says it better than me smile.gif You did a wonderful job, so I I'll wait to see what you will come up with next happy.gif

Lil bit of an update. While my other Legend of Dragoon tracks are temporary on hold, I've been reworking a bit of music from The Final Fantasy Legend. Here's my latest WIP, a fun loopable version of the boss theme from FFL2. I won't likely use it in my project album(which mostly features acoustics with light drums and the occasional E.guitar), but I had a lot of fun with this track.

Oh, and the distortion etc is all purposeful. Dynamics are still being worked on, though.
Streaming

As always, I'm open for comments, critique, whatever.

Updated with another little FFL mix.

Streaming

This one, unlike the other one, is probably going to be used.

Great job Rast, usually anything that has to do with Final Fantasy Legends makes my eyes and ears bleed, but I find this tune to be enjoyably old school. You've improved a lot! ^ ^

Another update, once again an FFL arrangement. This one will be used as an alternate battle theme for certain events.

I love the stringed instrument you've used; sounds like a cross between an electrical guitar and a harpsichord (but that might be my messed up speakers' fault). o.o
Anyway, it's everything I'd expect from a battle theme, though I wasn't expecting it to sound as good as it does. happy.gif

As it happens, it's -both-. I originally arranged 10 or so tracks from FFL for use in this project, and tried to focus on instrumentation and making sure they sounded like they came from the same game. They all did, in fact, but if I'd just gone crazy mix and matched sounds they'd probably sound like a bunch of generic Final Fantasy rips.

I wanted a much more epic battle theme for certain segments, but I didn't want to compromise the overall feel of the soundtrack with it. In the end I ended up using a harpsichord that sounded similar to the (lost long ago) samples I'd used in prior arrangements, and mixing it up by adding in a little orchestral(which was also present in prior songs) and an electric guitar sample I've been having a -lot- of fun with. Probably the best I've used, and definitely the most fun to play around with.

Glad to hear you liked it, though. Got quite a few new arrangements planned.

Yeah, it's difficult to get instruments that I've not heard before or am able to identify, but that was a really nice collaboration between the two instruments. =]
Can't wait to hear the new arrangements you've got planned. ^^

New arrangement up! This one is being used as the new opening theme, and is a remix of a theme from Final Fantasy Adventure.

Wow, I really liked this one a lot. ^^
It's very clean and melodic, I would enjoy this as the opening to a game (would spark a lot of interest in what's coming up next as well). happy.gif

Two new mixes up! These two are a set, an new overworld BGM for the second world of my game, and a new battle theme to go with it. Both are rearrangements of Final Fantasy Adventure themes.

Overworld II (Streaming)

Battle 2nd (Streaming)

I tried to give them a more melodic feeling to match the new setting, rather than the new upbeat stuff for the first portion of the game.

Overworld II is definitely melodic, but almost sombre. Not sure if that was what you were going for, but it is really pretty. ^^

Battle 2nd is definitely more upbeat than Overworld II, but it doesn't sound like it belongs to an entirely different game - so you've definitely got the continuity part down. wink.gif
I thoroughly enjoyed both of these, and if I had ever played Final Fantasy I might actually know what they come from, but they're great even without knowing that. =]

Been messing around with some new sounds, and working on some NES/SNES style sounds. Here's a little remix I threw together, part of a series of mixes I'm working on. Calling this little project "8-Bit Shuffle" and going to to at least a few more. If It seems all and well, I'll probably work on an original soundtrack using this style.

So, first up in the 8-Bit Shuffle line is a mix of "Decision", from Love Hina.

Streaming

It's also come to my attention that I ought to update the first post with all these other mixes. Meh, tomorrow. Sleep sounds nice now.

Wow, this does sound like it belongs to an NES/SNES game. ohmy.gif

Excellent work! I don't know that song (haven't seen Love Hina), but it's still done very well. happy.gif
