Okay first let me say this is my style. Others may disagree but I don't really care. This is how I make maps. Others may have other ways that they do it and that's fine but personally this is how I map. So...let's begin.
First off you want to make a new map with a reasonable size. Make it somewhat relative to that size outside. Do not make it the same size as the default because that just makes the map look a bit scrunched. Kinda makes each map look like a small basement. Anyway...example is below.
Second thing you wanna do make the background black. Every tileset i've worked with has a black tile so this should be a problem. After that make the walls with the top piece, bottom is the wall that goes with it, from your selection in TileA. After that make the walls semi-big so that the characters don't look as big as the house and/or walls. After that just pick a floor to go with it and fill it in using the paint bucket and your selected floor tile. Again example is below...
About this time you can begin to add furniture but add furniture that will help others understand that it is an Inn, Pub, etc. I was mapping an inn in this map so I made a counter, to pay to stay at the inn, as well as beds and a common room. Remember to keep it basic at this step. Example is below...but I guess you probably knew that by now.
Now you can begin adding things to make the place look generally better as well as any other furniture. This is also the step that you can add events and any other special effects. Remember not to make the map look super cluttered because it'll make it look really bad. If you are making a place that is rich it is a good idea to add a bit more furniture as it makes the house look like they are rich because they can afford more. If you are making a poor place place less furniture. For the last time the example is below!
Thats about it! If you have any questions or comments feel free to post them!
