This is a story I have finally completed, and is loosely based on the fictional placed described in the novel Lost Horizon by James Hilton. Most notably and more suitably based on the manga/anime series Saiyuki. For those who are unfamiliar with the anime, Shangri La is considered to be an Earthly utopia where humans, demons, magic and science all co-exist and this area is isolated from the outside world. In my story everything is similar except for the utopia part but mostly this is just my spin on Saiyuki.
Character Story
In this game you will be the eyes of three half breed demonic brothers known throughout the lands as the Raum Brothers. Consisting of Renove, Rubues, and Relick they are triplets born from a human mother who died while giving birth to them. Their father, once the First General in the army of Abaddon (King of Demons), also died, but in the line of duty. The brothers where cursed at birth with forbidden magic by a sorceress who was attempting to kill the brothers but was stopped by their father. The curse being, that they have a limit set on their demonic powers and they can only use those limited powers when together. If separated they would loose all demonic powers and revert into their human forms.
Story Background
A few small incidents had occurred and the humans decided that it was impossible for them to co-exist with demons knowing their potential to kill, mainly in fear of a future catastrophic incident. This would lead to a war that would last for almost 400 years. Eventually the humans would gain the advantage in the war forcing the demons to a secluded area in the west. To avoid another war the Abaddon (Demon King) agrees to these arrangements and it has been this way for about 20 years.
Presently, there has been a new Abaddon (King of Demons) appointed after the death of the last and the new King of Demons does not agree with the arrangements and has plans to kill all humans and take control of Shangri La. However, the humans have created Demon seeking androids called Omnibots to keep things in order. While also being no push overs themselves with the invention of Chi Emitters.
As for the brothers, even though the sorceress was stopped by their father she still managed to escape unharmed and due to the complexity of this forbidden magic only she can remove the curse. The brothers, who now serve in the demonic army of their guardian the new Abaddon, who was also their fathers best friend, wish to seek out the sorceress to lift the curse. Their search is not with out peril, as they defend themselves against demon hunters, Omnibots, and those demons jealous of their power.

I understand what you mean by not mixing graphics but since I am no artist, I did the best that I could with what I had or could find. I wish I could have everything go together perfectly but unless anyone would like to help I cannot.
All that aside how did you feel about the game itself?

Interestingly, this is the second project on the forum called Shangri-La.
Yeah. At first, I came onto the forum and saw "Shangri-La" listed as a recently discussed topic and thought "Oh boy, someone else is talking about my game!" followed by "Wait a second, this isn't my game..." It's not like I OWN the word "Shangri-La" or anything so I have no right to ask you to change the title, but I'll admit, I was a little taken aback.
Moving past that, the overwhelming curiosity and urge to compare will probably have me trying out the demo. Plus, seeing a writer approach an age old literary classic with a new angle tends to intrigue me, so I'll say curiosity has my attention there as well. I'll check it out.

Yea I will post the rest of the credits right away, sorry about that.
@Little Lynn, that's too bad that we have the same titles, Alpha Mod told me about it several months back on another forum but I never new about it until recently, since I rarely post on this forum. But I hope that you enjoy the story and game play, and eventually are able to see that my game is completely different then yours. Maybe? I'll have to pay your game to know for sure myself.

Lol, confused me as well. I finished your demo by the way and wrote a review.
I think I'm going to try this one. I like the looks of it.

I'll give feedback when I've completed it.

The final release of Project Viral is finally here!
Ok I played your game and got to the first boss and got my ass kicked. I used up all my potions before I started fighting that omni bot so I stood no chance. The game is good and I loved the way you used the animated battlers. Skills take away hp which is something different to most games so kudos. The dialogue was ok and you used facesets and speech bubbles. Although some of your mapping had a few problems with it that needed changing as if they were unfinished in some areas.
But still, the game was good from what I played, maybe a bit too challenging at the start but if I get round to it, I may replay it again. Good job.

Well first, thank you for taking the time to play the game.
I hoped the game wouldn't be too hard but I guess that was a fail. As far as mapping goes, it's no secret that I suck at mapping, and I guess it's because I have no patients. I lost the original CMS I was using, and took along time before anyone could find it. (It was Coca's) So I switched to Hermes'. I spent most of the time working on the CBS, mostly because I was a bug tester for it, so that's my excuse for my lack of effort in other areas. I'm glad you enjoyed what you played so far, and I would encourage you to explore the forest a little more, the next time you play.

I'll have to look into the difficulty because right after you fight the Omnibot you fight a group of soldiers. A hint for the Omnibot fight is to use the spirit fruits they regenerate spirit energy after each turn.
This name reminded me of the another anime where there is a huge city on the plate due constant danger on surface. Main protagonist in the said anime uses boomerang.
I will check this out.

ha i know it exactly what your talking about. one of the games playable character's also uses a boomerang as a sort of homage? (if that's the right word). let me know what you think about the battles, and pacing if you dont mind. those are the two things i'm worried most about.
Pacing is fine, albeit slow at the beginning. There are some spelling mistakes but so are in over 99% of other free RPG games which rely heavily to dialogue. Not even some commercial ones can avoid that.
I got to my third battle and it was already a boss. She/it manages to defeat my party because skills use HP instead of MP. Skills have a quite steep HP costs, so... I'm not 100% sure if using them to attack is worth it. However various buffs seems to be worth it at least when it comes to Boosts.
I also noticed that your characters has tendency speak with one liners. I guess they don't like to talk much.
