Hi everyone, didn't see this forum when I came here. Wanted to introduce myself.
Name's Sigurður (Siggi), from Iceland. Games are my nr. 1 interest. Love great storylines, character design and such things that keep you wanting to continue. I play various types of games, just not sports games. I miss the good old days where the emphasis was on stories and characters rather than only visual beauty. Anyways, I have my RPG experience mostly from Final Fantasy. I played FF4 a lot when I was young and I must admit, FF: Mystic Quest has a place in my heart, I know, pretty bad game but one of my first games, it was pretty childish but well, I was a child back then. I despise the newest FF games, for the love of Odin, how bad can they get?
But enough about that. More about me. I graduated from the Multimedia School of Iceland and put emphasis on 3d. I'm more into 3d than programming but the little I've done there like editing scripts in RPG Maker has been a lovely time (and frustrating) and I've learnt a lot in a short time. As I delve into the Maker, I am working on a game, just an old school FF like game. I'm using me and my friends as the characters, me as the protagonist of course (and planning to use Icelandic politicians and bankers as the antagonists, go figure). Mostly, I'm doing it as a humorous thing for my friends. I've completed a sort of an intro chapter and learnt a lot.
I am highly interested in all graphic making and I'm trying to get a hang of the mapping system. Since I'm most proficient in 3ds Max, I'm using that to make tiles. I know, sounds silly, but it's actually very easy to render out 2d images of a plane with different textures to use on different tiles. There's a lot I don't understand yet regarding the tilesets. I'm having some difficulties in replacing tiles in the various Tilesets, well, actually, only the A tilesets, don't understand those tiles like the grass and sand and such that occupy two individual tiles, then some other four that....well, you know what I mean.
Well....anyways. I'm glad to be here. I've posted some topics for help and I really appreciate the answers. Looks like a very nice community here and I hope I'll not leave here yet in an ADHD overload. I just wish this was profitable. I always seem to find ways to pass my time doing something like this......but heck, I like it

Welcome to RRR! Agreed, they got back. Point is, when do you think it got bad Ah, Iceland politics..... Know nothing about ^^
For tiles, try to look in the tutorial section. I'm pretty sure there was an explanation on tilesets... That, and it's pretty straight forward
Iceland has this corrupt elite, pretty much like any other country I suppose. Politicians, bankers, film makers etc.
The FF games......well, FF6 was amazing but at that point, they began with too much machinery. I think FFX was the start of the downfall, though it did have the amazing Sphere Grid and strangely, it was one of the first games I mastered. FF12 was absolutely cactuar in my butt, one of those Japanese games where you had to continue for three months before you could find a save point. I just recently got a used copy of FF13 and it's not really drawing me back to the controller. I've never heard as many words that end with Cie. For the love of Kjata, I miss the great storylines in RPGs and the great character design. My favorite FF games are
FF4: My first FF and really good overall FF5: The absolute best one, such a perfect Job/Class system that gives you a new experience every time you play. FF7: Huge story that has me figuring out new things every time. I wish I could delete my memory of this game so that I can play it again to experience the story again.
I... did not expect film makers to be considered part of a corrupt elite, but, well, first time for everything. Welcome to the forums! Glad to see someone who has professional experience - most of us are just bums with a passion, myself included. Try to stay... uh... cool out there, okay? (Cool? How cold is Iceland, anyway? All I really know is that its name is a misnomer to some extent...)

Oh, you mean autotiles? Er, yeah, this is gonna take some explaining to do... just search for "RPGVX Autotiles tutorial" or "RPGXP Autotiles tutorial" depending on what maker you're using. It might turn up some results.

Well I'm not exactly a professional, but I'm going to Bournemouth next fall to study more 3d. I've been viewing some tutorials, know how things work but it can be such a boss battle to replace tiles with your own. Just viewed some parallax mapping for the first time. Looked amazing and it looks like that's more the way to go, though there are probably disadvantages. So now I've actually created a dilemma for myself. Parallax mapping or tile mapping? I guess you must choose either way for a project, probably not wise to use both.
The weather in Iceland is schizophrenic to say the least. One day it's snowing, next day raining. The summer is awesome, but it's only for maybe two months, dunno. Thankfully, we don't get tornadoes and those hazardous weathers. It can get cold, but I'd say Iceland is a ridiculous name. The wind is usually cold, so we get a lot of "window weather" (that's what we call it in Icelandic at least, weather that looks awesome out the window, but when you're outside it's something totally different). By the way, anyone from England here? Coming to England next fall, if anyone knows about a studio apartment for rent, let me know
Oh yeah, film makers aren't exactly part of the corruption, but they are considered a part of an elite. How is it that all the people with the greatest salary get's everything for free? Why is the president and other politicians the ones to see the premiere of new Icelandic movies for free, even those meant for children?

Nope, they're pretty much awesome in every way, really.

It's not a giant land mass made entirely of ice?

Hmm, that's true. But it's probably a formality more than anything. Prime Minister's gotta show that he mingles with the community and that crap. I'm not into politics anyway. Too complex.
So, yeah. See you round!

yeah Kaz, I've seen that site. Just heard that there's some extra cost when renting though agencies, but maybe it's worth it. Just don't wanna be at a dormitory or renting with others, I've had my share of that
"It's not a giant land mass made entirely of ice?" nope, not really. Everything is Xbox green outside now. Stays like that a short time though. Two or three months of summer, the rest snow or sumthin'.....except on 24th and 25th of December. No such thing as a palace of ice or something that ridiculous like in that James Bond movie...what the hell was that? Maybe it was on top of a glacier. Speaking of glaciers, will you please tell anyone coming to Iceland to not climb them, we've had our share of saving tourists off some frozen wasteland.
Thanks for the welcomes. Nice community. Haven't opened the Maker today, busy modeling a shampoo bottle in 3ds Max....for some reason. Know Fructis...Garnier Fructis? The green shampoo bottle? Anyways.
...........think I'll use that shampoo bottle as a cameo in my game.
