Oh...Yeah, I see your point. I'll focus in creatures that could probably slip their way inside or are made inside the City from this point. Sorry, I love making monsters so I got a bit carried away. XD

Also, regarding suggestions for names, how about Ditiae? It can be translated from old Latin into either Estate or Riches.

While the bestiary is shaping up to be rather awesome, I feel like we might not use some of it, since the RP will primarily take place in the city. I just thought I should advise you to pool your time into street creatures rather than ones you would see in the wilderness.

Some sewer-based creatures would meet that kind of criteria.

I agree with your idea completely. Even if say this RP fails, we have all this compiled info we can use to continue pumping out RP's.

Well, I wouldn't mind writing up some of those things too. I often go into rather unnecessary details (I have several manuscripts of "lore" I've written for a multitude of scenarios - fantasy, sci-fi, etc.), like season and day names, but also things like festivals (which could be incorporated into the RP in many ways), so I'd quite like to go into the city itself's lore, if no one else wants to do it (based around the details mentioned by Nicsp, of course).

I'm so excited about this RP! biggrin.gif

No worries.

As for Ditiae. It's not a pleasant word to look at. But if you can change a few letters, we might be golden.

Have at it. We could really use some lore and festivities actually.

It's almost been a week with no activity, so I'm just going to do a pulse check here.
Havn't been able to do much on my end because midterms are coming up, but I have finished House Eisern. Already updated the first post with all the goodies, so be sure to check that out.

My Game One challenge, turning 18, Dad getting married, and new life as a binge drinker have affected my ability to post, but I'm still very much up for this. I think we should grind out a real sign up thread soon though, before interest is lost.

Sounds about right. What we really need right now is...

Trickster's Bios for the members of the Society of Revolutionary Nourishment.

And I need pictures to accomany House Eisern. It's just so hard to find though...
Anyone know a site or gallery that might be useful?

Anything else we can just make up as we go along really.

OK guys, like sparrow I've got a lot of things going on right now, I've got something for religion coming along. But it will take another day maybe to post. I think that some stuff on technology would be useful. We've got some references to artifice but other than that we don't have a great deal.

Blah. Why did you have to make my life more difficult Sparrow?

Religion: Working on it.
Neighboring Towns: Too much information. As I said, we want to isolate ourselves to one location. Neighboring countries will likely be irrelevant.
Technology: Maybe just come up with an arbitrary date as a reference. Something along the like of 17th century?
Astronomy: Likely will be irrelevant. If we want it, we make it up as we go along.
Festivals: This might be important. I'll come up with something.
Sayings: Stuff like this will bog down the thread too much. We'll skip it, and make stuff up if we want to.
Sports: Will likely be irrelevant. If you want a sport, make one up on the spot.
Current Affairs: I'll see what I can brew.
Persons of interest: I thought that's what we've been doing this whole time.

I can help out with these if you need it tongue.gif
As for persons of interest, I meant more like historical figures unrelated to assassins. Surely we'll need to shop, there'll have to be merchant families. Judges, guards, military, thugs, that kind of thing, if we're going for real world building.

I kind of covered the whole Judges, Guards and Military with the Red Steel company, just pointing it out in case you hadn't read it tongue.gif

Hey guys.
First off, I'm sorry for breaking my own rule and disapearing like that. It's midterm season, and I happened to fall for the planning fallacy wallbash.gif Sorry about that.

Still sort of disapointed to see progress is at a standstill.

Where are the character bios for your guild Trickster?
Where is the religion Kisuke?

These are the two most important things.

As for the other things mentioned, it was mostly covered by Niscp. If we want thugs, again, we can make them up as we go. I don't think we'll be spending too much time with them.
I do agree we need some shopkeepers though. But what sort of items do you foresee us purchasing?

Anyways, I didn't come here empty handed. Here's an update.

Ditae

For the record, that is what we are calling this city.
background
Ditae: A City whose sole philosophy is Social Darwinism. Not that it was always that way. Before the revolution, Ditae was a regular monarchy rule by the Falawmires. However, as poverty grew widespread, the Falawmires soon found themselves under fire. Unlike certain Kings in History, they sought to resolve these issues, knowing it was their necks that were on the line. Compromise after compromise was made until the people gained full control of the market.
This was not all good for the citizens of Ditae. Under the new system, the rich noblemen took control of the market through powerful Guilds that controlled a major resource. The royals fearing a takeover by these Guilds built a military to enact there laws. This did not last however, as the military separated to later form the Red Steel Company.
Life for the average citizen for Ditae has improved very little since the monarchy. Robbed of their scapegoat to blame, the people simply go about there lives complacently, while still struggling to keep ends meet. No person will amount to anything unless they possess one of the three qualities, which had long been monopolized by the Guilds. Wealth, Power, and Knowledge. And things are only going to get worse when the Guilds turn their interest towards each other.

Moe
Apologies in advance for the giant pic

A homeless man who rummages the streets of Ditae for ways to keep his stomach full. Moe is an interesting fellow, getting his funds by selling people information. Turns out he’s got dirt on some guy, who happens to have dirt on some guy, who happens to have access to public records. He’s a friendly guy, more than happy to chit-chat, and you never have to worry about theft from him. But, if you want to get some dirt on someone, he is more than willing to charge you every penny he can get.

Reminds me of Marxism.
Perhaps some of the people of Ditae could be planning a revolution, a coup of the guilds if you will, to put the means of production into the hands of the people, that would take place while the guilds are weakened from battles with each other. Would be an interesting plot direction to eventually take the RP in.
I'm probably only saying that though because I'm studying marxism :L

Revolution started by the people? Sounds like this needs to happen in our America.

A true revolution (as defined by Marxism) requires a change in the mode of production.
In fact, true marxism leads to a kind of socialist communism. Whether this will ever happen or is even plausible is up for debate, as things like ipods, RMs, entertainment, etc, become uncommercialized and are gotten rid of.
Any 'consumer' good that defines capitalism and is not essential must go.

But that's off topic.
In this example the people would simply want the city to stop trading and to abolish money altogether (perfect socialism) where some people make the food (but only enough to feed the people) and when people need clothes they make clothes, etc. The idea of assassins and even war becomes moot once money no longer exists and there is nothing valuable to be traded or taken. It's a perfect self-sustained system where labour is not traded.
Note: I don't agree with Marxism, though it can be made to sound very appealing. However I can imagine a city like this one being on the tipping point of revolution though. (the new mode of production is guilds that are not the property of any one person, and ergo can be taken by the people).

Well, I was trying to establish the high tensions in the city. Though our primary goal is for players to choose a guilde and try to win over all power. We can use the social revolution for the second half, or maybe even a sequal to this RP, if it does well. That shouldn't stop anyone from being a commoner who protests to the current guild system though.

As for RP progress, Trickster seems to have fallen off the planet, so could I get someone to either write up the Bio's for his important person's list, or just build a different guild from the ground-up?

Society of Revolutionary Nourishment By Trickster: For Reference

background
The Society of Revolutionary Nourishment, or SRN, is a relatively young guild being only sixty-five years old, built as the foundation of free speech and controversial ideas. Its members are educated in secret, taught the ins-and-outs of politics (both modern and historical), philosophy, and coercion. Its goals are to place one such member in a seat of great national power, so that he or she may make decisions that are ground-breaking, unheard of, and (most importantly) influenced by the guilds higher-ups. Its founder was one Alexander LeBell, a scientist whose theories and conclusions often contradicted that of the [INSERT MAJOR RELIGION HERE]'s beliefs. Tired of being censored, (both verbally and otherwise) he gathered a small group of followers and educated them. It was extremely difficult, being that they were all orphans or rejects who had never been to school. Yet his genius prevailed. He taught by rewarding them for correct answers, rather than punishing them for wrong answers, and so they were more determined to accept the teachings. In the end, he succeeded, and turned a group of city scum into the most intelligent party of individuals seen in recent years. These eight orphans, along with Alexander himself, are known as the "Physical Deities", in a sort of ironic worship.

Although originally secluded entirely, the guild has, over its sixty-five year existence, revealed itself slightly, manipulating politicians directly (rather than through scapegoats and proxies), hiring cut-throats and spies, and ultimately increasing the extremity of their beliefs from mere thoughts and hopes to actions with very real, very dangerous consequences. This is due largely to current Guildmaster Richard Tarkin's passion for the Guild and its ideals, feeling that it must overthrow the ignorance of society as a whole if there is ever to be any kind of substantial change. His son, Silva Tarkin, is not so passionate, remaining in the Guild by his father's side solely for the promise of battle, which he loves more than anything. Richard's daughter, Era, has no interest in the Guild's affairs whatsoever.

KEY MEMBERS (NPCs):
Richard Tarking - Leader
Silva Tarkin - Security Chief / General
Lucas Bigg - Lawyer
Harry Trutt - Political Representative
Garreth Vollkern - Head of law "donations"

Sounds good.
We just have to keep things moving right? Can't wait for Trickster forever. Even if he shows up again, after we've got the guilds together, we could still use his Guild. We'll just have to see how everything fits together.
