Oldie

newer

I'm not sure if this is foresty enough.
This is the 3rd map of the part. so it is it's "final" version. There would not need to be any sand, the working hill is on the past match.
Now, however I don't know what this map needs. I know it needs more foresty or more features.
But, It's a bit confusing on what to focus.

I'm aiming for foresty on the right, but also give it an ocean feeling on the left,so there's clear wind.

Truly for what it is : It is a transition between a forest and a ocean.
Ocean @ left.
Forest @ right.

In my opinion, that's just good as it is, without need to add anything more.
I just don't like the logs on the right, forming that kind of "C" around the little palm tree. That's... not natural.
Instead of that, just try to add some more tree in order to prevent the player from going that way.

To tell the bare truth, this map reminded me a sort of jungle or tropical island, more than a forest. Palm trees surely give the whole envirnoment a pretty good ocean-feeling.

Is it RM2K3-made? wink.gif

Yes is RM2K3 made.
and yes is a tropical island based really, just wanted to see if it fits or if it needs more tree's, and slightly gives me the itch that it is a bit empty or probably something missing. might be just me though, because the bottom part is filled with water and slightly attracts my attention.
Thanks thought. Main topic is here, thanks anyways ^-^~

You call it a forest, I would call it a jungle based on the screenshot you provided for us.

Well, not to sound smart ass, in case you meant it to be forest, those trees could be changed.

I think is fixed it, I thnk it was a bit too empty.
But however, is ilke a transition between oceany(close to shore) and a forest(next to it)
I don't know where to indicate what exactly it is. But Is somewhat in the middle of a transition.

And don't worry, I'm a great fan of critism, whatever makes it better I'll have to learn from my mistakes!

I'm not entirely sure if the fog graphic is in-place, but I guess it's kind of working as a rainforest/jungle area. Does the tileset you're working with come with sand/beach tiles? If those were placed around the edges of your cliffs it would plus this map.

I referred to your clouds by its technical name. I know they are cloud shadows, but the graphic type is considered a "fog" in rpg maker. tongue.gif

Maybe the next column of tiles from the left would work for this? (the ones with the ocean water surrounded by sand)

Actually, the "fog" moves on the map, and it loops, as a total- making it more lively, i just took one that had the most parts on.
so is alright.
EDIT

Edit 2 : I double posted? I remember editing this one, my bad if that's the case.
Anyways, thanks.

I like the look, and it does remind me of a jungle, but since a good jungle is hard to design in RM, this gives me some ideas. Also, the sand layout you added gives it a plus.

Now, the only thing that is off is the very tall cliff on the right side; it's height doesn't coordinate with the other smaller cliff. It looks like it may be around 3 tiles too tall.

Careful when you have corners meet with each other, they look unrealistic. Look where the two Es beside the hill. It meets with the other edge giving it a glitchy RM look. Other then that, good job.

Not sure what to say to this, but I think I fixed it up a bit, sorry I took so long- I've been working on other part's of the game and took up most of my time. By the way the [E](events, oviously)
are actual, Shadows, and tree's made up. Just to make it more exciting in some places.

Thanks' for the feedback guys!

Honestly, I really din't- I did not understand a single thing you said.
I think what, you mean is why it's doing there, but I don't fully understand you.
Sorry by the way.

EDIT
Can you please be more descriptive?

I would recommend using a black and green ceiling tile that looks like the edges of leaves. You can make 2 ceiling tiles the same thing and stack them. Look at this screen shot from Tales of Phantasia.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/snes/588771-tales-...mages/screen-10

Also, have you ever noticed the trees in Pokemon games? I've done that before by making a floor tile out of the thin tree overlapping infinitely than using the transparent tree top and bottom to complete the illusion.

I know exactly what you're talking about, but I think at the moment I would not really be able to pull it off, especially since is somewhat angled, and not really "surrounded" by the forest look. One thing is, my tile set does not support it- and I have tried this before in the past, because it gives more of a realistic yet overlapping effect(overwhelming the player that "THIS PLACE IS FORESTY") Which, I do understand where your coming from. But, I will try and see if I can test it again in a much effective way.
