That can't be all that you registered for, can it? I mean there are literally TONS of games out there that take their resources from already existing games. Not many of them (including myself) tend to claim them as their own, and I've yet to see a case where that's actually happened. Is this company important or what? You give me the feeling that you're some kind of employee or something. =/
I'm not trying to be rude, but it just seems so strange.

Do I honestly sound that old? I'm a 16 year old junior still in high school, lol. And yes, I did register just to do this; it was a first for me, so it did feel somewhat strange. No offense taken, I don't kow anyone that would go such a way to post about issues like this.
I develop video games myself (not RPG, I am sorry to say), and I've seen enough around the indie and commercial gaming internets to see that there are handfuls of people out there who really will rip off resources from other people's works and claim it as their own. I'm very errr... passionate, I guess you can say, about copyright issues, fair use, and crediting the right people for what they've done. I've played Chaos World, and it was one of the NES games that I found truly enjoyable, so I did feel somewhat angry that there were no credits for the company.
Dragon Fantasy: Venaitura stole its monster sprites from Chaos World EDIT: Ok so I registered on the forums (just for this :OOO) and the person was nice enough to explain it So now I hope Chaos World does get credited on the game list. (Chaos World is awesome, btw) Edit 2: Apparently Generica (http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=78452.0) ripped off the overworld layout. <____<***
http://www.rpgrevolution.com/forums/index....showtopic=35282 So I was just browsing at the various games. Oh hey, this looks interesting. Then that female sprite immediately struck me. ISN'T THAT MICHENU?????????????? When I saw the red and green monsters Chaos World was plastering itself all over the screenshots. http://shrines.rpgclassics.com/nes/chaosworld/enemies.shtml O hey, look what I found. it really was Michenu and the Armor Warrior. <_________< So I downloaded it and thought ok fine maybe if they credited Chaos World I'd let it slip. What do I see?
Kentona--Graphics. Oceans Dream--Title Screen detail. Lennon--Title Screen outline. WolfCoder--Title Screen detail. Ephiam--Story and game design.
EXCUSE ME? I may be the most zealous advocate for fair use, but YOU DIDN'T FKING CREDIT NATSUME. Kentona? My fking DOS computer that blew up.
I love indie gaming, but I refuse to play this no matter how good it is. They fking stole the graphics and credited someone on their team for it.
You know, you could have at least worded what you were trying to say as strongly as you did there in your Blog Post. I did not "rip" the graphics, I simply went on to RPGclassics.com and got some of their monster sprites that they had for ChaosWorld. Besides, I never claimed to have been the creator of the monsters in the first place. I did not state that I had made them from scratch.
I have to agree, though, that I should have credited this company for their graphics. However, doing all of this (as in going out in to the vast expanse of the internet and finding some sprites and the like that are compatible with RPG maker and can fit the type of game that I'm going for) has become something that I do not put much thought in to doing. I do not think that very many people at all do, actually.
What I had meant by "graphics" when I listed it in the credits was actually the sprites, which were in reality from Enix (or whoever made Dragon Warrior). However, Kentona was the one who gathered all of the sprite sheets together and let me use what he had found, thus I credited him for it. There is no "team" who decided to make Dragon Fantasy: Venaitura. I got a little help, sure, but we did not all sit down and distribute roles to one and other.
I rarely credit the company of a game as old as this. Even if it is an SNES game or something that had been developed at a more "present" date. I know that you may think that it is wrong, but I doubt that I am going to change my ways. I usually just expect the people to know that I did not make the graphics. If anyone makes their own graphics, or at least has some original sprites and such that can be displayed, they usually say so in the topic description. If not, we usually assume that the graphics are either ripped or just some kind of edited RTP (if it resembles such).
I am not trying to be an ass or anything, but if I came across as one then I guess that is just how it is. I simply quoted your blog entry and made a response to further clarify why I did what I had done.
Oh yes. I forgot to add this little piece in to the main section above: I, too, dislike it when people claim another persons work as their own. It boils my blood, but I have only had it happen around once (or twice). I was not the one that this individual had stolen from, but rather I had been a witness to the act. I had read that their claim to have made all of the graphics only to find out that what resources they HAD were merely rips. THAT is something I do not do, and is the only true occurrence of this type that I can get frustrated at.

I initially considered wording it just as strongly, but I decided against it. My friend was astonished that I remained so "polite" about something I take this seriously. This is supposed to be a community forum, and whipping up something like that out of nowhere right after I registered would certainly land me a warning or ban for flaming or trolling a user. That is somewhat counterproductive and I honestly did not want that. If I could at least finish this without causing some riot, that would be to everyone's benefit.
Since you were the one to put this on the topic, I might as well finish this discussion without worrying about some mod slamming down the hammer. Even though this game is older than dirt, to not record what raw game materials came from where is downright sloppy and irresponsible. With the internet, credits and attribution are hardly things people have to, or even need to, worry about. I mean, let's be honest, who frickin' cares? However, I do strongly disagree with the notion that it's negligible to not credit anything, even these NES sprites, just because the stuff came from ancient history. Expecting that people will "know" that you didn't make the graphics is a dangerous thing; not dangerous in the sense that someone's going to stand in front of your doorstep wielding a chainsaw, but in the sense that it is one of the subtle little things that degrade the integrity of the internet. When I saw your credits page, I assumed that Kentona was claiming the stuff was original work. I don't see why you wouldn't note that Natsume created this if you browsed through the RPGClassics site. Or at least write that Kentona was the one to find and organize the material which were from a console game.
We'll have to agree to disagree about our viewpoints on the extent of crediting and what is ok or not ok. I'm glad you acknowledge my side of things, and I do thank you for not being one of the real asses out there that actually claim the original owners actually copied "their" work. I come from a school where crap like this happens all the time and teachers say they care but really don't, which is why I'm making somewhat of a big deal about this. In the maelstrom of a slightly morally dubious society, I do try my best to do what I think is right, even at the expense of a little convenience. I don't believe in being a bystander over even small acts like these if I can voice a concern about it.
It is good that you decided to remain polite instead of becoming enraged and typing a slur of insults and the like, as some folk may find themselves doing even if it is about such a simple matter. Why is that? Because honestly, I do not tend to read or take those posts seriously and I just ignore them. However, when I come across something as...ohh..."odd" as your blog post I can not help but feel some kind of urge to share my side of the story.
A majority of all of this stems from the fact that through the production of the 6~ games I have made so far, this has been the only complaint about such a matter that I have ever received. Sure, I used someone elses battle animations a few times (after asking them, of course, but I wasn't too specific and instead used the actual animation instead of the graphic used to make it) and got a small complaint, but it was nothing major. Aside from that, there was never anything that would lead me to crediting all of the actual gaming companies that the original graphics originated from. I think that I may have done something similar for the credits of Dragon Fantasy 1, I listed the actual games rather than the companies that had produced said games.
And no, I am usually not an asshole unless my "opposer" is, in turn, an asshole.
Aside from that, I truly have to come out and be honest with everyone: I'm not all that serious about this RPG Maker business. I do it more for the enjoyment factor, and because of that usually lose sight of such things as credits and the like. That is also why I have begun to focus more on small-scale games rather than epic adventures spanning 30+ hours. It is just not all that fun to do once you have done it twice, and dealing with a smaller project is much more manageable and fun (or at least in my opinion, anyway).

Well, if you're going in expecting a full-blown NES type of game then I will have to warn you to be very cautious. It may look like an NES game, but as I said before: Looks can be very, very deceiving! The feel of the game is entirely different, though most of the people I've talked to said it was a good kind of different. It was oddly good, and felt "right."
But I hope to hear back from you, and wish you the best playing experience! Come back when you've got the time and have played through it a bit to give us your thoughts.

Wow, this turn a strange turn.
I expect that most people would know that the graphics are from Dragon Warrior/Quest for the NES (primarily III & IV). I gathered them from Woodus's Dragon's Den website, which has a bunch of Dragon Warrior rips from the various games. I may have tweaked a thing or two.
You're way too late for that party, Kentona! All of it has already come to pass, and now this topic just sits here awaiting some new replies that float by every now-and-then.

I liked your game. My first problem is with the challengue, thats trully too low, i passed away alot and winned without a problem. The retro feel and graphics where fine and the history was simple but interesting.
For venaitura 2, more challengue!
I think it had the duration it just needed for what is it!.

There will DEFINITELY be better (and more) puzzles in Venaitura II, as well as a MUCH higher difficulty. In regards to difficulty, I was thinking of releasing a harder/more challenging version of this game in the future after finishing the sequel. I'm also hoping to rewrite the storyline as well, because now that I have everything planned out essentially, a few (lot) of things just don't make much sense. SOOO... yeah. Lol.
