You don't need reason to love someone. And why not in making games?
Its self-pleasuring and better than playing poker on Facebook..I guess.. =.=

QUOTE (Vexus @ Feb 1 2012, 01:07 PM) *
After watching a trailer of an rmxp game releasing on the psp I got a sudden urge to start again.

Meh, i've got the stuff to do this, it's actually really easy(Needs a little work), but I don't own a PSP to play anything on, nor do I use XP.(So its kinda useless to me..)
The main reason I like to create games(or at least, try to.) is that coding and spriting, and graphic design are my past times. I'm fairly decent at both, even though I may need help some times. sweat.gif

Does that mean it's possible to port RMXP games to handheld devices? I would love to get my games playable on my Dingoo A320. Is that possible too?

It shouldn't be that hard to port out ruby into a Java environment.

I am a complete Noob at this RPG maker... I am using mostly all the same things that the system gave me, except I AM changing the sprites some, and creating sprites, and looking for ways to make new face plates, and using different graphics that the system gave me.
I also downloaded a system to turn music into MIDI... and also OGG.

I like story telling to, I think I have good Idea's for original games...
Sure, when I really first came here I was all: "And so the Epic hero starts out to save the world"
but that is so "ick" to people.

Now I have a game Idea I find amusing and think people will enjoy, sure your gonna have some that don't want to play cause you are giving them a world they have pretty much already seen, but you have friends and facebook can do a lot of advertising for you too to your family and friends.
You are an artist when you do a sprites.
A Mathematician and bilingual person when you do scripting
A composer when making music.
and all these other things... but one thing to remember is that it really does not matter what people think of your game if your just doing it for enjoyment and fun. You are learning.... I know for me to master this game creator it's gonna be a while (as I have very little knowledge of scripting), but by golly I LOVE RPG MAKER!,

And tell ya what, I will be happy to play your game with what ever you use, just so I know your storyline is great (cause to me, I just love an epic story)... just keep your maps interesting with what ever you can to make it colorful and welcoming happy.gif

It is most certainly possible, although most likely not probable. You just need to know how too;

1. Recode the RGSS library to fit the handheld standards,
2. Code an eboot for the said handheld,
3. Other things that involve starting and running the game, control functionality, etc.

In other words, your screwed unless you either know how to code it all(It's quite a lot) or have somebody who does do it for you.($$$)

On top of all this, you can't even begin until your 100% sure your game is free of bugs, glitches, and completely finished.

Which brings up the reason why anybody with the abilities to do this won't, because there is just no point to it.
When you make the game for the computer, you can regularly add updates, fixes, expansions, etc.

Bottom line, it's not worth all the trouble, time, and money gone into a game for a handheld. You'll get more out of the PC.

Let me put it like this: When I first started making games, I was doing little pen & paper games. One page for instructions and one for each level.

Then when I was about 14 or so, I discovered Spiderweb Software’s (Ever heard of em?) Exile which eventually led me to their Blades of Exile game/scenario maker which I made 3 complete games on.

Somewhere along the way I found emulators and Super Dante 2. I played with that for a bit before I found RPG Maker 95. I also dabbed in that for a bit and grabbed 2K once I heard about the translation. After that, I stayed on RPG Maker throughout it’s iterations up until and probably beyond the current maker, Ace.

The moral here?

I make games because I enjoy it. If other people play em, great! It’s not necessarily about whether others play them or not. (Though, I admit, it would be nice if people played and enjoyed my work.) It’s about telling a story using whatever medium I enjoy. Not everything has to have a price tag on it to be worth doing. In fact, if you take some time to reflect a bit, you may find that most of your more enjoyable memories didn’t cost you much if anything at all. Just some food for thought.

You should do it for the experience. Even if you are just using RPG maker, it shows that you can complete a project, it shows what areas you are best in.

All these experiences can benefit you in the future, even if it is just a hobby. Even if it's not an original idea, you can turn around and say "Yeah, I did this." and you can be proud about it. So, just do it for the experience if nothing else.

Just my $0.02 happy.gif

QUOTE (kayden997 @ Feb 1 2012, 01:47 PM) *
I've been thinking a lot lately and I bet most people have the same thoughts as I do.
So I'll just throw it out: Why am I creating this game?

It's a really simple question that I can't seem to answer myself.
I mean, it's just RPG Maker; I'm going to be using RTP graphics or graphics everyone saw before.
The story is probably going to be typical.
I'm going to use a battle script everyone knows of.
Nothing I have is unique!

So should I continue with this?
Because really all I should be posting is screenshots of my game and people will decide if it needs improvement or not.
Are they going to play my game in the end?
Probably not. When they see the typical plot, graphics, battle, scripts, they'll just turn away and move on to the one that does have excellent plot, custom graphics, and awesome HUD.

So, is it worth it?

no. Its really not.

How ever - do you enjoy making the game? do you really care what people will think? do you want to take the time to do something you enjoy doing that will maybe only get a few people to play it but in the end you can sit back and say "I did it, I created a game?"

then yes.

Woh, Exile. That takes me back. I played that way back.
