So far I really like your game, I am at the part where we jsut got this camp, after the explosion... so not to far into the game yet.... My computer is at a crawl, cause it sucks, so im trying to be patient and play it not a knock against ur game, no... knocking a crap pc
I like yourr skill tree and the consequences that it mayh have choosing it.
is there any bad things that happen for choosign some of the options? like will my team wanna kick my a... or something??
Ah, yes, I have a crappy laptop myself, probably better than your machine, but I'm not running Skyrim at all.
You've still got probably a max play time of 2 hours remaining if you do everything the game has to offer, including secrets.
Then there's the replay value, you can play the game 5 times making different choices. In total, this demo should have 11 hours of replay value, including in how you play the game which changes based on what skills you pick of course.
But no, picking any skills has no consequences. There is one scene in the game that changes thus far based on the skill you have. If Bole has fireball, he'll use that to open the chest (you know the one), if not ,he just punches it open. Your skills have no direct failure tied to them, because Words is about freedom, play as you'd like! Of course the game's scenes will change like that based on your choices to make the game more personable to you.
And for now that Bole thing is the only thing your skills affect, like I said, they will never penalize you, just change scenes. Now your dialogue choices will and do have effects that are both negative and positive. Some choices you make aren't even done using choice boxes.
During that whole explosion scene...
If you have Bole just enter where Disu's house would be the dialogue between them changes where Bole mentions that he looked for Emily and didn't find her.
And Bole can get pissed off at you if he happened to be in your party when you went to pick up Ling and you happened to pick a dialogue choice during that scene that Bole doesn't quite like.
Your party members, in that instance, get quite pissed! And it offers new scenes (note, not necessarily negative) during the camp.
If you've ever played a game called Alpha Protocol then you should know Words is a lot like that. Just because you piss somebody off does not inherently mean you'll be punished in the game. Pissing people off or lying to them can be to your or their benefit.
It's just a matter of finding out.
Feel free to give anymore feedback anytime! I appreciate it, thank you kindly!

hey, I like your game, I wont complain at all, I just want to tell you a few things though..there is some spelling mistakes..but onyl a very few
and about the weapons dealer quest in deton, he asked for 20 poison stingers u get from the hornets, Ive beat them and got the stingers, but nothing.
Oh typos always happen. If you can point them out to me (include dialogue paths if needed) that would let me fix them up. I can't really just wander through random events looking for them but if you can point out where and how then I can fix the what.
Hmph, I probably didn't finish it...let's check...Nope, I finished it.
He gives you ten percent off all of his weapons and he'll have poison daggers in stock.
Note, the percent off is only for Chre's goods, the weapons dealer. Asson (the armor dealer) still has regular prices for his goods.

Just in case anyone is worried I am in no way slacking. I was just pre-occupied with something else for a time, Words progress is a tad slow but it's quality here, no rush jobs.
I will be adjusting the skill trees to add more skills to the game, currently all of that is the bare minimum. The scripts in the game offer a lot more depth I just haven't tapped into yet.

Alright, I'm officially back on development for Words. My old laptop had a CPU failure and I had to recover my hard drive disk to get Words (among all of my other games) back.
Just figured I'd let anyone who was interested as to what was happening with this or if someone was worried it got canned.

Rebalanced enemies in the beginning (gave them slightly less health). It's entirely possible to not spend any money on equipment (but still wear the weapons you automatically get) at the start of the game and still beat all enemies (except the optional boss fight, that will require armor).
And I've allowed the player to now reset all characters skills and allow them to redistribute their ink wells if they so wish. Note: Your level is not reset by doing this. All you lose is everyone's book skills, not their character skills. It's just a means to get other skills if you wish to change your playstyle or feel like you've made a mistake.

I've gotten truly back into the swing of things with Words and I'm here to show off my progress on the next release. Which, while not much is "physically" there, the base work and concepts are, in my opinion, superb, if you forgive my arrogance.
What to expect in Hret, the mountain city of the next update.
Poly - Poly is a purple Jester outitted with a Book that can create Worlds which Poly can visit and bring you into as well. She uses them as a form of entertainment creating some mini-games for the player such as "Scramble" and "Poly Count." Scramble has you trying to avoid copies of Poly's as they rush around the map, it's platforming. Poly Count is a much innovated version of the Pokemon Stadium games counting game involving pokemon rushing across the screen and you count how many of X pokemon. Poly Count will have more than simple left-right maps and plenty of tricks for your eye to try to conquer as you try to count the Poly's.
Both Scramble and Poly have multiple difficulties. Upon beating in some measure Poly's games the player will be able to craft their own Words (using Bole's Book) to make their own worlds to visit. Essentially the reward is a form of instant entertainment. Bored? Ask for a world involving battles, puzzles, exploration, etc. as you wish.
The Ink Well - A drug club in Hret where people like to get high on Ink. You'll be able to pick which of your party members get high (100 gold per member) and you'll experience good highs and bad highs. The initial high will be either or but your choices within the high will determine whether it ends as a good or bad high. The reward for good highs is status boosts or even new skills. Bad highs might (temporarily) kill your party members or debuff them for a set amount of time. Oh and you'll need a password to get into the club.
Collin the medicine man - An alchemist, medicine man, and bomb creator. Collin is the so called medicine man mentioned earlier in the game in a quest already in the game. Based on your choices in that quest Collin may or may not help you in it. Collin also comes with at least one other quest and a few other surprises. He also introduces the items known as "bombs" to the player.
Alle the farmer - This farmer needs helps with his crops and being that Hret is dry he almost is always watering them. If you wanna help him then by all means you can see if you can beat his time (and then your own) to water all of his plants around Hret. You'll be paid, of course.
Cite, the old drunk - Remember that drunk in the beginning of the game? He's back, he's likely to die. You're past actions affect his current life situation at this point and determine which of the 3 branching paths his life can take. Only one of them, well, maybe two, will lead to death.
Easter Eggs - From the fountain in Hret getting turned on/off based on Ling's water level to the names the guard in the Arena will give you if you can't think of one there are a lot of eggs to find in Words.
The Arena - This is it, the main plot has taken our cast of humans to Hret's freshened up Arena. Will you kill a fellow human being for money, to live yourself, or will you forgo it all and let them do the killing? Many choices to be made, many battles to have, and plenty of never done before AI tactics to enjoy in the challenging scenarios the Arena offers. And of course, unexpected things occur when the Arena is over to ensure our plot moves along to other ideas for the world Words wishes to show you.
Questions? Ask.

New demo? Alright, I shall test be back with another report! Btw, your blood work is getting better.... Wait, that sounded kinda emo.
Oh no, no new release.
Update just means something new in the topic. The gameplay hours would change when I release the next version.
It'll be a month or more before a new release because the next release will be adding hours of new content and extending replay value and showing your choices actually mattering.

Got a youtube channel I'll be using as a source for motivation and commitment. Please support in what way you can. I'll be using it for developmental logs as Words progresses:
I've added new dream sequences fo rthe second camp site (located in the mountains outside of Hret). A small nightmare too.
Hret's Arena now houses a prison that you'll walk through each time you get set for a fight. This might be removed if I find it too troublesome to update and/or if I feel it adds nothing.
New dialogue for your party members at the Hret camp site, bit more interesting events to witness, and they'll hold you to your promise of whether or not you'll be killing anyone in the Arena (yes, it is an option).
A dungeon will be located in your own camp site that you'll be free to explore as you wish. It's reward is some valuable treasures and some further lore into the previous civilizations and perhaps Books.
Bole is now working on mapping out what places you visit. This will turn into a map system later on allowing you to see any places you've visited. Perhaps even the smaller locations and not just the world map. Don't know where a particular location is? The map will show you! Story wise it should be done after you finish Hret's plot.
Expect 3-5 bosses in the Arena total. All of them except one is optional and all of them have unique AI and they are in fact Book users just like your own party. They have just as interesting abilities as you do.
The Arena let's you pick every single match you'll perform in. The harder the battles you choose, the grander your reward. Consider this a difficulty setting (it only applies to the Arena).
Adjusted some dialogue in the previous chapter to make the design a little more clear about the wolf battle.
I'll probably go back through the writing of the whole game and adjust it so it's cleaner and less to read. Not right now of course.
The next downloadable version is quite a long while away but understand that I'm adding a solid 4+ hours to the game which it's current download is just 3+ hours (with 11 hours total replay value). I'd expect the replay value to jump to about 20+ hours after this update.
My goal is 30+ hours or so for just one playthrough and don't worry, I've got plenty of more interesting locations to make.
